Do you have longer, healthier hair goals in 2023?

Here are 5 ways to meet them.

Having long, healthy hair is a goal that many of us strive for, but achieving it can seem hard to achieve. From split ends to breakage, there are many obstacles that can prevent us from getting the long locks of our dreams. But with the right care and attention, having beautiful, healthy hair is well within reach.

Good hair care starts with a routine with the right products and how you style your hair. Heat styling tools, harsh chemicals, and rough brushing can all cause damage to your hair, so it's important to be gentle with your locks.

Regular haircuts, deep conditioning treatments, and protective styles, while you sleep, can also help to keep your hair healthy and prevent damage. But it's not just external factors that can impact your hair health. Stress, lack of sleep, and an unbalanced diet can all take a toll on your hair, so it's essential to take care of yourself as well!

In this blog, we'll be discussing the best tips and tricks for achieving long, healthy hair along with all the products we recommend. So, whether you're starting from scratch or just looking to improve your hair care routine, read on for all the information you need to achieve the long, luscious locks of your dreams.

  1. Start with the scalp. The hair follicles located on your scalp are the foundation for healthy hair, just like rich soil is the foundation for healthy plant growth. In order to encourage the growth of thicker, healthier hair you need to make sure you’re nourishing your scalp! On the other hand, dead skin and other buildup can block hair follicles and limit healthy regrowth, so clarifying washes are essential! To show your scalp some love we highly recommend Bumble & Bumble  Clay wash and Davines’ Elevating Scalp Recovery Treatment.

  2. Use the right products. Using products that are formulated with ingredients such as vitamins, minerals, proteins, and natural oils that nourish and strengthen the hair is essential for preventing breakage and split ends. Additionally, these products will also help to protect your hair from environmental stressors, such as sun exposure and pollution, which can weaken and damage your hair over time. You also want to make sure you’re using shampoos and conditioners that strengthen hair in order to help to maintain the hair's natural moisture balance. This is important because hair that is too dry or too oily is more prone to breakage and damage. We highly recommend Melu Shampoo and Melu Conditioner
  3. Make time for treatment. Sometimes your hair needs some extra TLC! Using a deep conditioning mask, or strengthening mask once every week or two weeks is a good idea to help restore moisture and hydrate hair, especially damaged or chemically processed hair. Just like a face mask, this extra little step can go a long way in giving dry, damaged hair a little bit deeper treatment than your everyday conditioner. Our faves are HIO deep conditioning masks, or strengthening treatment . Additionally, be sure to add on a treatment to your salon service, especially during the colder months or when you’re doing a colour service. Book here.
  4. Go easy on heat styling! Heat styling tools apply high temperatures to your hair which is effective for styling but can also weaken your hair, causing it to become dry, brittle, and more prone to breakage. To minimize heat styling damage, you should ALWAYS use heat protectant products whenever you use heat styling tools to protect hair and minimize damage. We highly recommend this heat protector. If your goal is longer, healthier hair it might be a good idea to start limiting your use of heat styling tools every day and turn down the high heat settings. In that case, why not try out some products that bring out and help style your natural hair texture? We love this Bumble & Bumble styling creme.
  5. Don’t skip the trim. It might seem counterproductive to cut it when you want your hair to grow but regular trims will help keep your ends looking healthy & prevent breakage. Split ends can cause further breakage! Plus, it’s always a good idea to keep up those layers!

Bonus tip: Don’t go outside in the cold with wet hair! This is a well known old wives' tale about catching a cold that may or may not have any truth to it ;). But when it comes to your hair, it is proven that wet hair in a cold environment can cause hair to snap, or expose you to harmful environmental damage if your hair freezes! Give your hair a quick rough dry before heading outside.

In conclusion, achieving longer and healthier hair requires patience, consistency, and a healthy hair care routine. By maintaining a nourishing & strengthening haircare routine, reducing heat and chemical damage, and maintaining regular salon treatments, you can give your hair the best chance to grow and shine. Most importantly, listen to your stylist and remember, patience is key – it takes time for hair to grow, so be gentle with your hair and give it the TLC it needs.
