Both are strong anti-inflammatory options. Azulene works via chamomile-derived compounds with established anti-inflammatory action. Opuntia oil works via linoleic acid and vitamin E for barrier repair. For redness and reactive skin, either works well — many estheticians keep both and choose based on client preference or ingredient sensitivity.
Clients with known chamomile or ragweed family plant allergies should perform a patch test or avoid azulene-containing products. Azulene is derived from chamomile and may cause reactions in those with documented plant family sensitivities. When in doubt, Opuntia Oil Wax is a good alternative for sensitive skin.
