One question we ask a lot

Are you washing your hair —
or your scalp?

Shampoo primarily cleans the scalp and roots, but the formula you choose still affects the lengths, colour, texture and overall feel of the hair.

When regular cleansing isn’t enough

Reset without making
clarifying your personality.

Clarifying shampoos help remove accumulated product, oil and styling residue when your everyday cleanser needs backup. Where a product supports it, that can include mineral or hard-water buildup and dry shampoo — check the directions; it isn’t a daily step for most hair.

Shampoo questions?

A few things worth knowing.

How do I choose the right shampoo?

Start with the thing your hair does that you would change — dryness, breakage, flatness, frizz, colour fade, an unhappy scalp — and choose the shampoo type that addresses it. Your hair type and how often you wash matter too, which is why the filters above combine concern, hair type and shampoo type. If nothing jumps out, an everyday shampoo is a perfectly good place to start.

How often should I shampoo?

It depends on your scalp, your hair type, how much product you use and how quickly buildup returns. Fine or oily-rooted hair often prefers more frequent washing; coarse, curly or very dry hair usually less. There is no universal number — follow how your scalp feels and the directions on the product you are using.

Do I need a hydrating or repairing shampoo?

Hydrating shampoos add and hold moisture — for hair that feels dry, rough or dull but is structurally fine. Repairing shampoos support the hair fibre itself — for hair that is breaking, stretchy when wet, or has been lightened or chemically treated. Many people need both at different points; if in doubt, damage first, moisture second.

What’s the difference between clarifying and everyday shampoo?

An everyday shampoo is designed for regular, balanced cleansing. A clarifying shampoo is a deeper, periodic cleanse that removes accumulated product, oil, styling residue and — depending on the formula — mineral or hard-water buildup. Most people use clarifying occasionally, not every wash, and follow it with conditioning.

Should I use purple shampoo every wash?

Usually not. Toning shampoos deposit pigment to counter brassiness, and using them on every wash can over-tone or leave hair feeling drier. Alternate with an everyday or repair shampoo for blonde hair and follow the specific product’s directions — they vary by brand and pigment strength.

What shampoo is best for fine hair?

Lightweight, volumizing formulas that cleanse well without heavy conditioning agents. Look for the Volumizing type or the Fine hair type filter above; avoid rich hydrating formulas at the root if your hair falls flat quickly.

What should I use for colour-treated hair?

A colour-care shampoo that cleanses gently, helps protect against fade and keeps the cuticle smooth — almost all of our colour-care shampoos are sulphate-free. If your colour is also dry or damaged, a hydrating or repairing shampoo tagged Colour-treated works just as well.

What if my roots are oily but my ends are dry?

Shampoo the scalp and roots with a scalp or everyday formula and let the suds rinse through the lengths rather than scrubbing them. Then condition or mask from mid-length to ends only. A clarifying wash now and then helps with oil and buildup at the root without drying the ends.

Should shampoo go on my ends?

Focus shampoo on the scalp and roots, where oil and buildup live. The lengths get cleaned as you rinse. Working shampoo into the ends can leave them drier — save the effort for conditioner and masks.

When should I use scalp shampoo?

When the issue is at the scalp rather than in the hair: oiliness, buildup, a dry or uncomfortable feeling, or a scalp-focused routine. Scalp shampoos are formulated to cleanse and balance the skin first; follow the product’s directions for how often.

Does Moda sell pro size shampoo?

Yes — litre and professional-size bottles, plus refills where the brand offers them, across most of our haircare brands. Use the Pro size quick filter above or the Format filter in the sidebar. Pumps are sold separately where applicable.

Can Moda help me choose?
