Same frizz. Different reason.

Humidity, dryness,
damage or natural texture?

Frizz is one word for four different situations, and the products are different for each. This isn't a diagnosis — just what you're noticing. Humidity frizz is handled here; the other three point you to the page where the deeper answer lives, and the What are you noticing? filter below sorts this shelf the same way.

One thing worth clearing up

Smoothing isn't
straightening.

More smooth.
Same you.

Smoothing

Softer, calmer, easier to style.

At-home smoothing products can support softness, surface polish, manageability, humidity control and easier styling. Your texture is still there — it just behaves better, looks more finished and does what you tell it to under a brush or a diffuser. It washes out and you use it again next time.

You want:

  • softer, more polished lengths
  • less puffiness and flyaway
  • easier, faster blow-dries
  • your own wave or curl, calmer

The route: Smoothing shampoo + conditioner · leave-in prep · creams, oils, serums · humidity defence

A longer-lasting smoother result

When you want the smoothing to last.

For hair that wants softer, shinier, more manageable results for longer than a product can hold, Moda offers professional Cezanne smoothing in the salon. It reduces frizz and makes styling easier for weeks, not days — and it is not the same thing as permanently straightening the natural texture. It fades gradually and your stylist confirms suitability first.

You want:

  • want the result to last for weeks
  • blow-dries that take too long
  • frizz that products only manage
  • want to keep your texture, softer

Three ways to smooth it

LOVE SMOOTHING,
SMOOTH.AGAIN
or NO FRIZZ?

Three professional smoothing systems. Different weight, different focus, the same goal. Choose by what your frizz is doing and how heavy your hair can handle — not by which one claims the most.

Davines

LOVE SMOOTHING

A complete everyday smoothing routine.

Best starting point
Fine, medium, thick or coarse hair that frizzes and wants the whole routine from one shelf — wash, condition, leave-in, weekly mask.
Care routine
LOVE SMOOTHING Shampoo + Conditioner (Davines: up to 3.9× smoother, 72 h anti-frizz with the full routine), the weekly Mask, a 500 ml refill and the solid shampoo bar.
Styling support
LOVE SMOOTHING Milk for most hair, the Serum (heat protection to 230°C) for thick or coarse hair, the Hair Smoother leave-in cream before a blow-dry.
Humidity focus
Davines names humidity in the Milk, Serum and Hair Smoother — it's the leave-in step that carries it, not the shampoo.
Weight / feel
Silky and lightweight — the conditioner rinses clean without coating, so it suits finer frizz as well as coarse.
Moda take
The easiest routine to live on, and the one we send most frizz to first. If you only change one thing, change the wash.

Kevin Murphy

SMOOTH.AGAIN

More substantial control for thicker, coarser hair.

Best starting point
Thick, coarse, frizz-prone hair that wants richer conditioning and a leave-in that does real work before the dryer.
Care routine
SMOOTH.AGAIN.WASH + SMOOTH.AGAIN.RINSE (Monoi oil, murumuru butter, biomimetic keratin protein) — the 250 ml duo, the litre duo and the trio with the treatment.
Styling support
SMOOTH.AGAIN Treatment — Kevin Murphy's anti-frizz treatment disguised as a styler — on towel-dried hair; EVER.SMOOTH for a heat-activated blowout.
Humidity focus
Kevin Murphy claims humidity resistance in EVER.SMOOTH and long-lasting protection in the Treatment; the wash routine is about moisture and strength.
Weight / feel
Richer — butters and oils built for coarse hair. Fine hair usually finds the rinse too much; the treatment is the piece to borrow.
Moda take
Where we send thick, coarse or very frizzy hair that lighter smoothing routines don't move. Colour-safe and sulphate-free.

SMOOTH.AGAIN

“My hair wants more substantial smoothing support.”

Living Proof

NO FRIZZ

A humidity-focused smoothing system.

Best starting point
Hair whose real enemy is the weather — a style that looks right indoors and swells the moment the air turns damp.
Care routine
No Frizz Shampoo + Conditioner (Living Proof: 3× smoother, silicone-free) and the litre duo — the humidity defence is carried by the stylers as much as the wash.
Styling support
Smooth Styling Cream (damp or dry), the heat-activated Smooth Styling Spray, Vanishing Oil to finish, Instant De-Frizzer for the afternoon.
Humidity focus
Every No Frizz styler carries Living Proof's Healthy Hair Molecule humidity claim — this is the system built around it.
Weight / feel
The lightest of the three — the Vanishing Oil and De-Frizzer add no visible product, which is why fine frizzy hair does well here.
Moda take
The humidity system. If your hair is fine indoors and frizzy outdoors, start with the stylers here and keep the wash routine you already like.

Can I mix them?

Yes. You might prefer one smoothing shampoo but a lighter styling product or a finishing oil from another system. Build the routine around the hair and the finish — not one brand.

When fine hair frizzes

Smooth without
flattening it.

Fine hair frizzes too — static, flyaways, a halo over a blowout — and it can't carry the products built for coarse hair. The answer is the light end of everything: weightless conditioning, a mist or milk instead of a cream, a drop of oil rather than a palmful, and a flexible finish that holds the shape without gluing it down.

When there's a lot of it

More smoothing.
Still movement.

Thick, coarse hair can carry richer conditioning, a weekly mask and a real leave-in — and it usually needs all three before a styler has anything to work with. The goal is control that keeps the hair moving, not a coating that makes it heavy.

When the curls are the point

Define it.
Don't flatten it.

Curl frizz is usually texture that hasn't been given enough moisture, definition or flexible hold to clump — not hair that needs straightening. The products here name frizz control for waves and curls; the full curl range, wash routines and diffusing guide live on the Curl + Texture page.

Humidity control is its own job

Moisture for the hair.
Defence for the style.

Condition the hair.
Protect the finish.

The hair needs moisture

Frizz in any weather.

If the lengths feel rough and thirsty on a dry day as well as a damp one, the frizz is coming from inside the hair. Humidity products can't fix that — conditioning can. Start on the Dry Hair + Hydration page and add humidity defence on top once the hair is fed.

What you're noticing:

  • rough in every weather
  • dull, thirsty lengths
  • feels better after a mask

Reach for: Hydrating shampoo, conditioner, mask, leave-in

Go to Dry Hair + Hydration

The style needs humidity defence

Fine indoors. Frizzy outdoors.

If the hair is healthy and the style holds until the air turns damp, the hair doesn't need more moisture — the finish needs a barrier. Only products whose makers explicitly claim humidity or weather resistance sit under this filter.

What you're noticing:

  • swells in damp air
  • blowouts that don't survive the commute
  • worse in summer, rain and steam

Reach for: Humidity-resistant prep, creams, sprays and finishing oils

Shop humidity control

Plenty of hair needs both — conditioned properly on wash day, then defended on the way out the door. Neither replaces the other, and a humidity spray on dry, rough hair just adds product to hair that wanted a conditioner.

Which format?

Cream, oil
or serum?

Three formats that get asked for interchangeably and do three different jobs. Creams shape the blow-dry, oils polish the finished style, serums do targeted smoothing either side of the dryer. The format doesn't tell you the whole job — the card does.

Want the smoothing to last longer?

Meet Cezanne.

For clients who want softer, shinier, more manageable hair with less frizz and easier styling for longer than an at-home product can provide, Moda offers professional Cezanne smoothing services. It's a smoothing treatment, not permanent straightening: it reduces frizz, makes styling easier and keeps your natural texture — the results fade gradually rather than growing out with a line, and your stylist confirms suitability in a consultation first.

Frizz questions?

A few things worth knowing.

Why is my hair frizzy?

Usually one of four things: humidity getting into hair that wasn't sealed, dryness inside the hair itself, breakage standing away from the lengths, or natural wave and curl that hasn't been given enough moisture and definition to clump. Same word, four different answers — the 'What are you noticing?' section above sorts them out without diagnosing anything.

Is frizz always dryness?

No. Dry hair frizzes, but so does perfectly healthy hair on a humid day, and so does texture that's simply undefined. If the lengths feel rough in every weather, start with moisture. If they feel fine and only swell when the air turns damp, the hair doesn't need more conditioner — the style needs humidity defence.

What's the difference between humidity frizz and dry hair?

Humidity frizz is a good style that puffs, lifts or loses shape once you're outdoors, steaming vegetables or caught in rain. Dry hair is rough, dull and thirsty regardless of weather. Plenty of hair has both, in which case: condition properly on wash day, then defend the finish on the way out.

What's the difference between smoothing and straightening?

At-home smoothing products support softness, polish, manageability, humidity control and easier styling — your texture is still there, just calmer, and it washes out. They are not the same thing as permanently straightening the natural texture, and nothing on this page does that. If you want a result that lasts weeks rather than days, that's a salon conversation about Cezanne.

Can I reduce frizz without straightening my curls?

Yes — that's what most of the curl products here are for. Moisture from the wash step, a defining cream, milk or gel on soaking-wet hair, flexible hold and a drop of oil once it's dry. Frizz on curls is usually texture that hasn't clumped, not hair that needs flattening. The Curl + Texture page has the full routine and the diffusing guide.

What should fine frizzy hair use?

The light end of everything: a lightweight smoothing conditioner, a mist or milk instead of a cream, one drop of a vanishing oil on the ends, a flexible finish. The Fine + Frizzy section filters this page down to products that name fine hair — and if volume is the bigger worry, the Fine Hair + Volume page is built around it.

What should thick or coarse frizzy hair use?

Richer smoothing conditioning, a weekly smoothing mask, a real leave-in on towel-dried hair and — if you blow-dry — a cream or balm with verified heat protection. Thick hair can carry more product than fine hair, but the goal is still control that moves, not a coating.

What's the difference between LOVE SMOOTHING, SMOOTH.AGAIN and NO FRIZZ?

Weight and focus, mostly. Davines LOVE SMOOTHING is the complete everyday routine and the lightest wash; Kevin Murphy SMOOTH.AGAIN is richer, built for thick and coarse hair; Living Proof NO FRIZZ is the humidity system, with the defence carried by the stylers. None is universally better — the comparison above walks through it.

Can I mix smoothing products from different brands?

Yes. You might prefer one smoothing shampoo but a lighter styling product or a finishing oil from another system. Build the routine around the hair and the finish — not one brand.

Cream, oil or serum — which do I need?

Creams go on damp hair and shape the blow-dry. Oils are mostly a finishing step for shine and polish on dry hair. Serums do concentrated smoothing either side of the dryer, lighter than a cream. The format doesn't tell you the whole job — the product card does, and plenty of hair uses two of the three.

Does hair oil stop frizz?

It calms the surface, adds shine and helps seal the ends — and the lightest ones carry a real humidity claim. But an oil on dry, rough hair is polish on top of thirst; if the frizz comes from dryness or damage, the oil works much better once the conditioning is sorted.

How do I stop frizz in humidity?

Seal the finish before you leave the house. A humidity-resistant prep on damp hair, a blow-dry that's fully dry and cooled, then a light humidity spray or a drop of humidity-resistant oil to finish. Only products whose makers explicitly claim humidity or weather resistance sit under the Humidity Control filter — we don't guess at it.

Do I need heat protection for a smooth blowout?

Yes, if you're using heat. Only products whose makers verify heat protection are listed on the Heat Protection page and marked on the cards here — a smoothing cream doesn't count unless the label says it does.

Is a smoothing cream the same as a heat protectant?

Not unless the maker says so. Some smoothing creams and balms carry verified heat protection; many don't. The card says which, and the Heat Protection page holds only the verified ones.

How do I keep hair smooth between wash days?

You don't need to start over. An instant de-frizzing spray on dry hair, a smoothing cream rated for dry hair on the ends and around the face, a drop of oil, a light spray for flyaways. Products marked Dry or Either on this page are safe on finished hair. Oil at the roots is a dry shampoo job — the Refresh page covers that.

How do I get rid of flyaways?

Flyaways are short or broken hairs plus static. A drop of serum or oil rubbed between your palms and skimmed over the surface, a light hairspray misted onto a brush, or a smoothing cream on dry hair around the hairline. If there are a lot of short broken hairs, that's a repair conversation, not a styling one.

What should curly hair use for frizz?

Moisture first, then definition, then flexible hold — a curl conditioner that names frizz, a cream, milk or gel on wet hair, and an oil once it's dry. The Curl + Frizz section filters this page to products that name curl and frizz together; the Curl + Texture page has everything else.

My hair is frizzy and damaged — where do I start?

With repair. Short broken hairs and split ends stand away from the rest no matter what you smooth over them. Bond care and strengthening treatments on the Damaged Hair + Repair page come first; a light smoothing product on top makes the hair look finished while it recovers.

My hair is frizzy and dry — where do I start?

With moisture. If the lengths feel rough in any weather, they're thirsty, and a smoothing styler on top just sits there. Hydrating shampoo, conditioner and a weekly mask from the Dry Hair + Hydration page — then a smoothing leave-in and a humidity finish on top.

Home smoothing or Cezanne — what's the difference?

Home smoothing products manage frizz day to day and wash out. Cezanne is a professional smoothing service done in the salon that gives softer, shinier, more manageable hair with less frizz and easier styling for weeks — not permanent straightening, and not a replacement for good home care. Your stylist confirms suitability in a consultation first.

Does Cezanne permanently straighten hair?

No. Cezanne is a smoothing treatment — it reduces frizz and makes styling easier while keeping your natural texture, and the results fade gradually over time rather than growing out with a line. If pin-straight forever is what you want, it's the wrong service, and we'll tell you so.

Can Moda help me build a smoothing routine?

Yes. Use Ask Moda below and tell us what the frizz is doing — puffiness, humidity, rough lengths, curls you want defined — plus how fine or thick your hair is and how you usually style it. A stylist will put together the steps for your actual hair.
