Ask ModaWhat is a co-wash and why use one on curly hair?
Yes — a co-wash (short for conditioning wash) is a gentle, low-lather cleanser that cleans and conditions at the same time. It's ideal for curly, wavy, and coily hair because that hair is naturally drier and more fragile, and traditional foaming shampoos can strip its moisture. The Coils & Curls Co-Wash removes dirt and build-up while nourishing with the Curl Guard Complex, so your curls stay soft, hydrated, and defined rather than dry and frizzy. Its lowered pH also closes the cuticle, so you don't need a separate conditioner afterwards.
Do I really not need a conditioner after?
Correct — no separate conditioner is needed. The Co-Wash's lowered pH and nourishing ingredients close the hair's cuticle and condition as they cleanse, so your hair is left soft and smooth without a conditioner step. If your hair is very dry or you want extra nourishment, you can follow with the Finishing Treatment Masque, but for everyday washing the Co-Wash alone is complete. Then define with the Oil-In-Cream or Curl Gel.
Is it silicone-free?
Yes — the entire Coils & Curls range is free from silicones, as well as sulphates and parabens. This matters for curly hair especially: silicones can build up on curls over time and require harsh cleansers to remove (which then strip the hair). Being silicone-free means the Coils & Curls range works within a gentle, curl-friendly routine without that build-up cycle. It's also 100% vegan.
Which curl types does it work for?
Yes — the Coils & Curls range is made for all textured hair: waves, curls, and coils. The Co-Wash suits every curl type. How you build the rest of your routine can vary by curl type: looser waves may just need the Co-Wash and a little Oil-In-Cream, while tighter coils often benefit from adding the Finishing Treatment Masque and using more Oil-In-Cream or the Curl Gel for definition and hold. It's a flexible, mix-and-match system.
