Soaking wet, curls are fully formed and the cuticle is open to lock in definition; dry or towel-dried application gives weaker results. Small amount, rake through with fingers, scrunch from ends toward roots. The butters and oils activate as you work them in. Diffuse on low or air-dry; don't touch until fully dry.

Ask ModaWhy must I apply it to dripping wet hair?
Yes — this is the key to great curl definition. When your hair is soaking wet (not just damp), your curls are at their peak: fully formed, elongated, and loaded with moisture, and the cuticle is open and ready to cling to anything that helps it stay that way. Applying the Oil-In-Cream at this point locks in the moisture and the curl shape. If you wait until the hair is towel-dried or partly dry, the cream applies unevenly and the definition is weaker. So apply it straight out of the wash, while water is still dripping.
What's the difference between the Oil-In-Cream and the Curl Gel?
They're both leave-in definers with different textures. The Oil-In-Cream is the rich, moisture-forward option — a thick cream that melts in, ideal for medium to coarse, dry, or thirsty curls that need deep hydration and definition. The Luscious Curl Gel is lighter with a medium hold, better for finer or looser curls or anyone wanting definition without as much richness. For maximum hold and definition, you can layer the Gel over the Oil-In-Cream. Choose by how dry your curls are and how much hold you want.
Will it make my hair crunchy?
No — the Oil-In-Cream is a rich, nourishing cream rather than a hard-hold gel, so it defines curls while keeping them soft and touchable. It does add a stronger hold than a plain leave-in by helping close the cuticle, but not the crunchy cast of a firm gel. If you do layer a gel over it for more hold and get a slight cast, simply scrunch it out once the hair is completely dry to reveal soft, defined curls.
Is it silicone-free?
Yes — like the whole Coils & Curls range, it's free from silicones, sulphates, and parabens. Silicone-free is important for curls because silicones can build up and require harsh cleansers to remove. The Oil-In-Cream defines and moisturises using butters, oils, and squalane instead. It's also 100% vegan and cruelty-free.
