Strong and brushable normally trade against each other, and this is the spray that manages both. It uses the same resin family as Extreme Spray at a lower load, so the film has enough cohesion to hold a shape and enough give to release under a brush. For most people, most days, this is the correct strong-hold choice rather than hold 5.

What’s inside — and why it’s there
The ingredients worth knowing.
- Brushability is a function of film cohesion, not of resin identity. Finishing Spray uses the same amphoteric octylacrylamide copolymer as Extreme Spray, neutralised the same way with aminomethyl propanol, but at a load that produces a thinner, less cohesive film. That film still has enough tensile strength to resist gravity and hold a set curl or a pinned section, while its fracture threshold sits low enough that bristle pressure breaks it cleanly and releases the hair instead of snapping it. C12-15 alkyl benzoate plasticises the film so that release happens as bending rather than shattering, which is why brushing it out does not produce flakes. The Colour Guard Complex adds UV and free-radical cover through the day.

Yes, there is a fix, and Maria Nila recommend it themselves: spray the curls only, not the whole head. Lift each formed curl into a cupped palm and mist its underside. Spraying overhead bonds neighbouring curls where they touch, and those bonds tear into frizz as soon as you move.
Can I put my hair up at lunchtime and wear it down again in the evening?
Yes — that is exactly what hold 4 buys you. The film releases cleanly under a brush rather than resisting it, so you can brush out the kink from an elastic and reshape without washing. A light second pass afterwards restores the hold. Extreme Spray at hold 5 would not allow this.
Is there really any difference between this and Extreme Spray, or is it just marketing?
No, it is not just marketing. They use the same resin family, but at different loads, and Maria Nila rate them hold 4 and hold 5 with a stated behavioural difference: this one is easy to brush out and Extreme is hard to brush out. Choose by whether you want to restyle later.
My hair goes dull the moment I spray it. Will this flatten my shine?
No, if you keep your distance. Dullness after hairspray comes from a thick, uneven resin layer scattering light. Held 25 to 30 cm away, the droplets arrive part-dried and lay down a thin even film. If you want added shine rather than just neutral hold, layer Styling Spray underneath.
I have fine hair. Will hold 4 be too much weight and drop my roots?
No, provided you spray the mid-lengths and ends rather than the roots. Hold strength is film rigidity, not mass, so it does not weigh hair down on its own. Root collapse on fine hair comes from over-application at the scalp — keep the can off the root area and use Volume Spray there instead.
