Why we like it
The Moda Team Review
This is the treatment for the client who genuinely does not have ten minutes - and that is most people. Maria Nila states it replaces both mask and conditioner and holds ten times more active ingredients than their standard hair masks. The base is lighter than the full masque, with no shea butter and no silicones in the published ingredient list, so it deposits fast and rinses clean.

Maria Nila is a Swedish house founded in 1999 by the Wikstrom family and named after founder Ann's great-grandmother; every product is 100% vegan, with Leaping Bunny, PETA, Vegan Society and B Corp certification behind it. We brought Maria Nila in as a new, fresh addition to the shelf - chosen with our younger clients in mind, and because the range is playful in a way most professional lines are not. Our honest read is that this is the up-and-coming brand making the biggest impact right now.

What’s inside — and why it’s there
The ingredients worth knowing.
- The speed comes from the deposition system rather than from oils. Behentrimonium chloride and guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride are cationic and substantive - they are attracted to the negatively charged damaged sites left by bleach and heat, so they attach within the first minute rather than needing a long soak to diffuse in. Cystoseira Compressa sits high in the list, consistent with Maria Nila's claim of ten times the active ingredients of their standard masks. Colour Guard Complex pairs sunflower seed oil with Quaternium-95. Notably, the published list contains no shea butter and no silicones, which is why this rinses lighter than the full Structure Repair Masque. Fragrance appears sixth - Maria Nila states 50% more than their standard masks.

How to use
Use it the way we would.
- Shampoo and rinse thoroughly.
- Apply through the lengths, skipping the roots.
- Leave three minutes and rinse. No conditioner needed afterwards.
Moda stylist tipUse it on the last wash before a colour appointment, not the first one after. Hair that arrives evenly conditioned and detangled takes colour and lightener more predictably, because product travels at the same speed along the whole strand. Unlike a heavy shea masque, this one rinses clean enough not to interfere.

Questions? We get them.
Good to know.
The questions we hear most about this product. If yours isn’t here, a real stylist will answer.
Ask ModaIt is only 50ml. How many washes will I actually get out of it?
Yes, it is a small tube, and on shoulder-length hair most people get roughly six to ten uses. It is concentrated - Maria Nila states ten times the actives of their standard masks - so a walnut-sized amount through the lengths is enough. Treat it as a booster, not a daily conditioner.
Does it really replace my conditioner, or is that marketing?
Yes - Maria Nila explicitly states it replaces both hair mask and conditioner, and the formula supports it. Behentrimonium chloride and guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride give the detangling slip a conditioner would, while the algae handles the treatment side. You do not need a second product afterwards.
My hair is damaged but goes flat easily. Will this weigh it down like a masque does?
No. This is the lighter of the two Structure Repair treatments - the published ingredient list has no shea butter and no silicones, unlike the full Structure Repair Masque. It deposits through cationic conditioning agents rather than heavy oils, so it rinses clean and leaves more root movement.
I found the rest of the Structure Repair range too heavily scented. Is this one milder?
No, it is the strongest in the range. Maria Nila states it contains 50% more fragrance than their standard masks, and fragrance sits sixth on the ingredient list, which is unusually high. If scent is a problem for you, use the Structure Repair Masque instead.
Can I use this straight after a keratin or smoothing service?
No - wait out whatever window your stylist gave you, which is usually 72 hours or longer depending on the service. After that this is a sensible choice, because Maria Nila positions it for chemically treated hair and it rinses cleaner than a shea-based masque. Ask your stylist before your first wash.
