No. 404 is specifically formulated for brush application — the brush is what creates the velvety foam and lifts the beard for the closest shave result. For a brush-free option, DEPOT® No. 405 Moisturizing Shaving Cream Brushless is the dedicated alternative designed for hand application.
How much of No. 404 do I need per shave? The tube seems expensive if I use a lot each time.
A small amount — roughly the size of a large pea — is sufficient for a full face shave when worked into foam with a wet brush. No. 404 lathers efficiently and a little product generates enough coverage. At correct usage rates, a 125ml tube typically lasts 4–6 weeks of daily shaving.
I shave around a beard and moustache — do I need a product like No. 404 for precision edge work?
Yes — No. 404 is particularly well-suited to precision edge work around a beard or moustache. DEPOT® specifically notes that its deliberate foam level allows precise shaving on smaller areas. The moderate foam gives good razor visibility while still protecting the skin, which is essential when working around beard lines.
I have sensitive skin that burns with most shaving products. Are the menthol and eucalyptol going to irritate me?
