- Dry hair has a cuticle that leaks water faster than it takes it in. The Therapist's glycerin binds water inside the fibre and its isethionate surfactant lifts sebum without removing the lipid layer that slows evaporation; hydrolysed quinoa fills surface gaps so the moisture stays put. Heat styling evaporates that moisture rapidly — Icon Welder's PEG-12 dimethicone and acrylates copolymer form a heat-distributing film that slows water loss under the dryer or iron, while UV filters reduce the photo-oxidation that roughens the cuticle in sun.

Ask ModaWhy is a heat protectant in a hydration set instead of a mask?
Yes, deliberately. Heat is the fastest way moisture leaves the hair, so a hydrating wash without protection under the dryer loses most of its benefit by the time you leave the house. Icon Welder keeps the moisture in. If you air-dry, add The Great Hydrator Mask instead — it was in last year's set.
Does Icon Welder make hair stiff or sticky like a hairspray?
No. It is a light film-forming spray with mild style support, not a lacquer — hair stays soft and brushable, with a bit of smoothing. Used on damp hair before the dryer, you will not feel it once the hair is dry. It also does not build up wash to wash.
My hair is thick but my scalp gets oily. Will The Therapist weigh my roots down?
No, as long as the conditioner stays on mid-lengths and ends. The shampoo cleanses the scalp normally; it is the conditioning step that carries the moisture, and it belongs on the lengths that are dry, not the roots that are not.
How is this different from last year's Therapist Hydrating Routine?
Yes, one product changed. The Therapist shampoo and conditioner are the same; The Great Hydrator Mask has been replaced by Icon Welder Heat Protection Spray in the 2026 set. The mask is still available on its own and pairs well with this routine for a weekly deep treatment.
Can I use Icon Welder on dry hair before a flat iron, not just on damp hair?
Yes. Mist it lightly over dry sections before the iron, comb through, and let it sit a moment before applying heat. Keep it light on dry hair — too much before an iron can sizzle. For blow-drying, damp application is still the better method.
