Silica silylate, PVP and water — that is the whole formula. The silica is surface-capped with trimethylsilyl groups, which makes it hydrophobic and almost weightless, so it builds friction between strands at the root instead of coating them. How to use
Use it the way we would.
- Shake, lift a section of dry hair and pump once or twice at the root or onto your fingertips.
- Press the powder upward into the root — press, do not rub.
- Repeat across four or five partings, then shake the hair out from underneath.

Yes, it goes further than it reads. Silica silylate is fumed silica, one of the lowest-density materials in cosmetics, so 2 g fills the bottle by volume. Each application is one or two pumps across a few partings, which is a matter of milligrams.
Hold 4 out of 5 sounds stiff. Will my hair feel crunchy or coated?
No. The hold comes from raising friction between individual strands so they cannot slide back down, not from stiffening the fibre with resin. There is a thin PVP film locking that position, but nothing coats the hair. It reads as body, not stiffness.
My hair is thick and heavy. Can a root powder lift weight like that?
Yes. Maria Nila formulates it for both fine and thick hair. On dense hair the key is working through four or five partings rather than the surface, so the friction is built at the root junction across the whole head instead of on the canopy.
Will it collapse in humidity the way mousse-built volume does?
No. The silica has been surface-capped with trimethylsilyl groups, which makes the particle hydrophobic. It repels atmospheric moisture and perspiration rather than absorbing them, which is exactly why Maria Nila describes the texture as long-lasting.
Is this only for root lift, or does it have other uses?
Yes, it has others. Maria Nila positions it as an alternative to wax and for fixing braids and hairstyles. The grip it creates between strands is what stops soft, slippery hair from sliding out of a pinned updo or a plait through the day.
