The client who blow-dries every day and uses nothing between the towel and the dryer because every heat protectant they have tried has either weighed their hair down or left it feeling coated. We give them Heated Defense. Invisible foam, two pumps, rubbed in before the round brush. They come back saying it is the first protectant that has not changed how their blow-dry feels — and their ends are noticeably less dry after six weeks. Kevin Murphy designed Heated Defense to solve a specific problem: most heat protectants are formulated as sprays that distribute evenly and sit on the surface. The foam format allows for even manual distribution while the Copolymer technology distributes protection intelligently once applied — seeking damaged regions first. Ask ModaI have fine hair that goes flat with most heat protectants. Will Heated Defense do the same?
No — Heated Defense is a weightless invisible foam that absorbs immediately into damp hair without residue or buildup. Kevin Murphy specifically designed it for all hair types including fine hair. One pump is enough for short to mid-length fine hair. The Polyquaternium-55 protective shield forms invisibly — there is nothing left on the hair surface to weigh it down.
Is 232˚C / 450˚F enough for a professional flat iron or am I still damaging my hair?
Yes — 232˚C / 450˚F is the maximum temperature of most professional flat irons and well above the standard setting for everyday styling. Most hair stylists recommend styling between 180˚C–210˚C for general use, which Heated Defense covers comfortably. The protection rating means the product has been formulated to remain stable and protective at that temperature — it does not mean you should always style at maximum heat.
Can I use Heated Defense with other styling products, or does it have to go on alone?
Yes — Heated Defense is designed to be layered with other Kevin Murphy styling products. Apply it first to damp hair before anything else. Kevin Murphy specifically notes it is the ideal product to place between your wash and rinse step and your styling products, creating a protective base for everything that follows.
Should I use Heated Defense instead of Staying Alive, or can I use both?
Yes — you can use both and they layer well. Staying Alive goes on first as the cuticle-sealing and repair step; Heated Defense goes on top as the heat shield before blow-drying. They serve different functions: Staying Alive repairs and seals the cuticle at an acidic pH, Heated Defense provides thermal and mechanical protection. Using both is the most complete leave-in routine for dry or damaged hair that is also heat-styled.
Do I need Heated Defense if I already use Everlasting Colour Leave-In for heat protection?
Yes — if you style at high heat daily. Everlasting Colour Leave-In provides thermal protection as a secondary benefit through its ILLUMINATE Complex, but Heated Defense is rated specifically to 232˚C / 450˚F as its primary function and uses the Copolymer technology that binds to damaged regions. For colour-treated hair being blow-dried or flat-ironed at high heat every day, both products work together rather than substituting for each other.
