Ask ModaHow do the three Maria Nila dry shampoos differ?
They suit different needs. This original Dry Shampoo uses potato starch for the strongest hold and the most volume and texture — best for fine hair and for building body. The Invisidry Shampoo uses rice starch for a lighter (1/5) refresh that leaves no visible trace, so it's ideal for dark hair (and blonde) where you don't want any white cast. The Soothing Dry Shampoo also refreshes but adds a cooling, soothing effect for itchy or sensitive scalps. Choose by whether you want volume (Dry), invisibility (Invisidry), or scalp comfort (Soothing).
Will it leave a white cast on dark hair?
It can, because it's a starch-based powder spray — on very dark hair a light cast is possible if you over-apply or don't work it in fully. To minimise it, spray from a distance, use a light hand, let it absorb, and brush it through thoroughly. If you have dark hair and want zero visible trace, the Invisidry Shampoo is specifically designed to leave no product residue on both dark and blonde hair — that's the better pick for you.
Can I use it just for volume, not to de-grease?
Yes — this is one of its best features. Because it has a stronger hold and adds real volume and texture, many people use the Dry Shampoo purely as a volumising styling product, even on freshly washed hair. Spray it at the roots of fine, flat hair and work it in to add body, grip, and lift. It's a two-in-one: a between-wash refresher and a volumiser.
Does it strip or dry out my hair?
No — the potato starch absorbs excess grease and mattes oiliness without removing the hair's natural healthy glow, so it refreshes rather than strips. That said, dry shampoo is a between-wash refresher, not a replacement for washing — using it too often without washing can lead to build-up on the scalp. Use it to extend the time between washes, then cleanse properly (the Purifying Cleanse Shampoo is a great periodic reset for build-up).
