The main difference is salt concentration and hold. The Salty Mist has a lower salt content, giving a light 2/5 hold and soft, natural, undone waves. The Ocean Spray has a higher salt concentration, giving a stronger 3/5 hold, more structure, and a matte finish — it's also used as a base for updos. Choose the Salty Mist for gentle, soft, everyday beach waves, and the Ocean Spray when you want more grip, texture, and a stronger, longer-lasting wave or updo hold.
Will the salt dry out my hair?
Salt can be drying in general, but the Salty Mist is formulated to be nourishing, with a lower salt concentration and conditioning ingredients that help offset the drying effect. To keep the lengths soft and shiny — especially if your hair is dry or colour-treated — mix a pump of the True Soft Argan Oil into the Salty Mist in your palm before applying. This is a favourite stylist tip: you get the beachy texture with added moisture and shine, so the salt doesn't leave the ends feeling parched.
Damp or dry hair — and do I need to blow-dry?
Apply it to damp, towel-dried hair (not soaking wet — there's a difference, and towel-dried gives the best result). It's a wet product that absorbs quickly, so let it soak in for a moment before scrunching it through. You don't have to blow-dry: for the most natural, undone beachy finish, let it air-dry, scrunching as it dries. If you want a bit more shape or volume, you can diffuse or blow-dry instead.
Is it good for fine hair and short hair?
Yes — it's suitable for both short and long hair, and it's a favourite for fine hair wanting soft waves and body.
