The difference matters

Fine, low density,
shedding or breakage?

Four different things that all get described the same way at the shampoo bowl. Knowing which one you're looking at changes the shelf you should be standing in front of — and two of these four are not what this page is for.

Not every hair
on the brush
means the same thing.

Fine hairDescribes strand diameter.Fine is about how thick each individual strand is — and it is usually a natural hair type rather than a change. Fine hair can be high density, medium density or low density; plenty of fine-haired people have a great deal of it.What it looks like:
  • a strand type, not a change
  • can be high or low density
  • often lifelong
  • volume is the usual job
Shop fine hair + volume →
Low densityDescribes how much hair is present overall.Density is about how many strands there are. It may be natural — some people have simply always had less hair — or it may be something you have noticed changing over time. The second case is what this page is built for. What it looks like:
  • how much hair overall
  • may be natural
  • may be a change
  • ponytail or part is the tell
Shop density support →
SheddingHair coming away from the scalp.Shedding is hair releasing from the root. Everyone sheds daily; what matters is whether it has noticeably increased, and whether it came on gradually or suddenly. It is a different conversation from breakage. What it looks like:
  • hair coming from the root
  • more than usual in the shower
  • can be seasonal or ongoing
  • not the same as breakage
Shop shedding support →
BreakageHair snapping through the lengths.Breakage is hair fracturing partway along the strand — short broken pieces around the crown, fragile mid-lengths, ends that snap. It can make overall density look reduced even when nothing is happening at the scalp. What it looks like:
  • short broken pieces
  • fragile mid-lengths
  • ends snapping
  • uneven lengths

Three different approaches

Davines ENERGIZING,
Eufora SCALPTHERAPY
or RICA Energizing Miracle?

Same general concern. Different routine depth, treatment philosophy and price point. None of these is better than the others — they ask different amounts of you.

Davines

NATURALTECH ENERGIZING

The targeted protocol.

Best starting point
Anyone who wants a targeted professional protocol with more than one treatment path — different routes for different density and shedding concerns, and scalp-focused support throughout.
Shampoo
ENERGIZING Shampoo — the everyday cleansing foundation the whole protocol is built on.
Condition / second step
ENERGIZING Gel — the daily leave-in scalp step. ENERGIZING Thickening Tonic — cosmetic thickening, the fuller-feel route.
Leave-on care
Two distinct scalp serums: Superactive for ongoing, progressive concerns and Seasonal Superactive for stress or season-related shedding. They are different products and we do not treat them as one.
Routine depth
Extensive — four or five steps, with more than one treatment pathway. Higher consultation.
Moda take
The route for someone who wants a protocol rather than a single generic serum. Start with the shampoo, then add the one treatment path that matches what you're noticing — not all of them at once.

Eufora

SCALPTHERAPY

The complete scalp-care routine.

Best starting point
Anyone who wants scalp care built into the normal wash day rather than added on top of it — a coordinated cleanse, condition and treat routine.
Shampoo
Thickening Cleanser — the daily wash step, built around the scalp rather than the lengths.
Condition / second step
Thickening Conditioner — unusually, a conditioner designed to be massaged into the scalp, continuing the same complex at the condition step.
Leave-on care
Thickening Treatment (leave-in, highest concentration in the range) or Thickening Serum (the same complex in a precision applicator for the crown, part and hairline).
Routine depth
Full system — wash, condition, treat. Medium consultation.
Moda take
The easiest answer for the client who says 'just give me the whole routine'. It behaves like one coordinated routine rather than a set of separate protocols.

RICA

Naturica Energizing Miracle

The accessible professional starting point.

Best starting point
Anyone new to thinning care, or anyone who would rather start with two products they will actually keep using than five they won't.
Shampoo
01 Cleanse — Energizing Miracle Shampoo, a mild fortifying wash for thinning-prone hair.
Condition / second step
02 Treat — Energizing Miracle Shock Treatment, a leave-in scalp step. RICA's own directions: daily for six weeks.
Leave-on care
The Energizing Miracle Kit boxes both steps together. There is no third or fourth step to decide about.
Routine depth
Streamlined — two steps. Lower consultation, easy entry.
Moda take
A genuinely good first professional buy. Accessible price point, and simple enough that consistency is realistic — which matters more than intensity in a routine you have to keep up for months.

“I want a simple professional routine.”

Same concern.
Different commitment.

Can I mix them?

Potentially — but avoid stacking several leave-on thinning treatments simply because they target a similar concern. Choose a primary routine and follow the product directions unless Moda has intentionally recommended otherwise.

Scalp / density support

I'm concerned about density, shedding or change.

Scalp serums, tonics, targeted treatments and the shampoos built around them. These work on the scalp environment over time — cumulative rather than immediate, and the makers say so. This is the shelf for a concern.

Cosmetic fullness

I mostly want my hair to look fuller today.

Root lift, mousse, bodifying spray, texture spray, thickening styling and volumising shampoos. These work on the appearance of the hair right now, and they work immediately. That's a legitimate goal — it's just a different one.

What it is:

  • root lift + mousse
  • thickening styling
  • volumising shampoo
  • works today, washes out

Shop fine hair + volume

Plenty of people want both, and there's nothing wrong with running a density routine and a volume product at the same time. What we won't do is sell you a styling product as a thinning treatment, or a scalp serum as a way to get volume this afternoon.

When it looks like thinning — but isn't

Could it be
breakage?

Hair snapping through the lengths can make overall density look reduced even when the issue isn't scalp shedding. It is one of the most common mix-ups we see behind the chair, and the two need completely different products — a scalp serum does nothing for a strand that is fracturing halfway down.

When both are true

Fine strands.
Less density.

These are not alternatives — you can naturally have fine strands and also be noticing lower density than you used to have. When both are true, the answer is to separate the jobs rather than look for one product that does everything.

Don't want a full system?

One daily step.

Not everyone wants a protocol. A single leave-on scalp serum applied daily is a legitimate route — and for a lot of people it is the one they actually keep up. Each of these works differently and on a different timeline; the product card carries the maker's own application, frequency and expected timeframe rather than a generic promise.

Sometimes products aren't the first step

A noticeable change
deserves context.

Professional haircare can support the scalp, the condition of the hair and the appearance of fullness. It cannot tell you why significant hair loss is happening — and nothing on this page is trying to. If what you're seeing is sudden heavy shedding, patchy loss, a rapid unexplained change in density, pain, sores, significant inflammation or other scalp symptoms that concern you, the most useful next step is an assessment by a healthcare professional. That isn't us being cautious for the sake of it: getting the cause right is what makes anything you do afterwards worth doing.

Not sure what you're seeing?

Start by
looking closer.

Moda's scalp service can help you look more closely at the scalp, talk through the routine you're already using, and separate concerns like buildup, oil, dryness and scalp comfort before you choose home care. It's a conversation and a closer look — not a diagnosis.

Thinning questions?

A few things worth knowing.

What's the difference between fine hair and thinning?

Fine describes the diameter of each strand, and it's usually a hair type rather than a change — many people have always had fine hair and always will. Thinning describes a change in how much hair is there. You can be fine-haired with plenty of density, or have thick strands and be noticing fewer of them. The two lead to different shelves, which is why the first question on this page is what changed.

What's the difference between shedding and breakage?

Shedding is hair releasing from the root — you'll see the whole strand, often with a small white bulb. Breakage is hair fracturing partway along its length, which leaves short broken pieces and no bulb. Breakage can make density look reduced even when nothing is happening at the scalp, and a scalp serum does nothing for it.

What's the difference between low density and fine hair?

Density is how many hairs you have; fine is how thick each one is. They're independent — you can have a lot of fine hair or a little coarse hair. Low density may be natural or may be a change you've noticed, and only the second one is what this page is built around.

Why does my ponytail feel smaller?

It's the most common way people first notice a density change, because a ponytail is one of the few times you hold all your hair at once. It can reflect genuinely lower density, but it can also reflect breakage shortening the lengths, or simply a different haircut. Worth looking at the part and the shedding in the shower alongside it before deciding which.

What's the difference between Davines ENERGIZING and Eufora SCALPTHERAPY?

Routine shape, mostly. ENERGIZING is a targeted protocol with several distinct treatment paths — you pick the one that matches what you're noticing. SCALPTHERAPY is a complete routine where the scalp care runs through the wash, the conditioner and the treatment. ENERGIZING asks more decisions of you; SCALPTHERAPY asks fewer.

What's the difference between Davines ENERGIZING and RICA Energizing Miracle?

Depth and price. ENERGIZING is the extensive protocol with multiple treatment routes and a premium professional price. RICA Energizing Miracle is two steps — cleanse and treat — at a more accessible price. Neither is a lesser product; they suit different appetites for routine.

What's the difference between Eufora SCALPTHERAPY and RICA Energizing Miracle?

SCALPTHERAPY is a full three-part routine that replaces your shampoo, conditioner and treatment. RICA is a two-step add-on you can run alongside whatever you already use. SCALPTHERAPY if you want the whole routine handled; RICA if you want to start somewhere without rebuilding your shelf.

Which system has the simplest routine?

RICA Energizing Miracle — a shampoo and a leave-in treatment, and that's the whole system. If simplicity is what will keep you consistent, that matters more than intensity.

Which system has the most treatment options?

Davines ENERGIZING. It has a shampoo, a leave-in gel, a cosmetic thickening tonic and two different scalp serums formulated for two different causes. That's a strength if you want a targeted protocol and a complication if you don't.

Which system is the most accessible professional start?

RICA Energizing Miracle. Professional formulation, two steps, and a price point that makes starting a scalp routine a smaller decision — useful if you're not yet sure you'll stick with one.

What's the difference between ENERGIZING Superactive and Seasonal Superactive?

They're formulated for different causes. Davines positions the Superactive for progressive, pattern-based concerns and the Seasonal Superactive for shedding triggered by stress or seasonal factors — the kind that arrives after something rather than building slowly. We don't treat them as interchangeable, and we don't recommend running both at once.

Do I need the whole Davines ENERGIZING system?

No. Start with the shampoo as the foundation, then add the one treatment route that matches what you're noticing. Buying all five at once is the most common mistake we see with this range — and it makes it impossible to tell what's working.

Do I need the whole Eufora SCALPTHERAPY system?

It works best as a routine, because the point is that the scalp care continues through every step of wash day. But you can start with the Cleanser and Conditioner and add the Treatment or the Serum later. The Regimen Kit is the value route if you already know you want all three.

Is RICA Energizing Miracle good for someone new to professional haircare?

Yes — it's one of the easiest first professional buys we stock. Two steps, clear directions (RICA says daily for six weeks on the treatment), and an accessible price. It's a good way to find out whether you'll actually keep a scalp routine going before committing to a larger system.

What's the difference between a density serum and thickening styling?

A density serum goes on the scalp and works over months — Living Proof, for example, reports visible difference at 8–12 weeks. Thickening styling goes on the hair and works this afternoon, then washes out. Both are useful. Only one of them is addressing a change.

Can thickening products make my hair look fuller?

Yes, and that's exactly what they're for. Thickening tonics, mousses, powders and blow-dry creams coat or lift the hair to create visible fullness. Davines, for instance, states the ENERGIZING Thickening Tonic increases the diameter of the hair fibre by 10% from the first application. That's a cosmetic result, and it's a real one.

Do thickening products actually grow new hair?

No — and we won't tell you otherwise. Looking fuller and growing more hair are not the same claim. Cosmetic thickening changes how the hair you have looks and feels. Scalp and density products work on the scalp environment over months, and the honest framing for those is support, not regrowth. If growth is the question, that's a conversation for a healthcare professional.

What's the difference between men's thinning products and general thinning products?

Mostly the packaging and the range they sit in. Men's systems like Eufora HERO, RICA Opuntia Oil for Men and DEPOT are built to sit alongside a shave and a styling product. The general systems are built around the concern without that framing. The scalp doesn't know which box the product came in.

Can men use Davines ENERGIZING? Can women use Eufora HERO?

Yes, both ways. Nothing on this page is restricted by gender, and we don't mark anything women-only. The Shopping path filter exists so you can browse the shelf that feels right to you — it is a navigation choice, not a rule.

Are general density products only for women?

No. They're often shopped by women, which is a different statement. Davines ENERGIZING, Eufora SCALPTHERAPY, RICA Energizing Miracle and the Kevin Murphy PLUMPING range are built around thinning, shedding and density regardless of who is buying them.

What's the difference between Eufora HERO and Eufora SCALPTHERAPY?

HERO is Eufora's men's grooming range, and Scalp Rescue is its daily leave-in scalp treatment. SCALPTHERAPY is the full three-step scalp and fullness routine without the grooming framing. They share Eufora's ProAmino technology; they differ in how much of your routine they replace.

What's the difference between RICA Energizing Miracle and RICA Opuntia for Men?

Energizing Miracle is the general Naturica scalp routine — shampoo plus leave-in treatment. Opuntia Oil for Men is the men's grooming line, with the Repowering Shampoo and the Repowering Progressive Lotion doing the equivalent jobs inside a grooming range. Same brand, two shelves.

What is DEPOT No. 105 — and what's a good simple men's routine?

No. 105 is DEPOT's Invigorating Shampoo, which the brand positions against hair loss for weak, thinning hair. The simple version of a DEPOT routine is No. 105 as the wash and No. 205, the no-rinse Invigorating Hair Treatment, on a clean scalp twice a week. Two numbers, and you can start with either.
