Why we like it
The Moda Team Review
The shine is real — not a silicone film, not a temporary gloss that washes off. Roucou Oil achieves gloss by smoothing the cuticle, so the effect is visible in natural light, studio light, and the morning after. Works on fine hair without going greasy, on thick hair without weighing it down. It’s the product we reach for at the end of every blowdry at the Moda backbar. The bottle lasts — a few drops is genuinely enough.

The client who walks out of the salon with hair that photographs beautifully and asks what we used at the end. It's the OI Oil — one drop between the palms, smoothed over the finished blowdry. She buys it at checkout. She comes back for it every time. Davines is B-Corp certified, family-owned, made in Italy. OI Oil is the hero finishing product of the award-winning OI line — the Roucou Oil from the Amazonian Achiote plant delivers a light-reflecting shine that cannot be replicated by silicone-based alternatives because it works by genuinely smoothing the cuticle rather than coating it.

How to use
Use it the way we would.
- Pre-style (heat protection): Apply 1–2 drops to damp towel-dried hair, distribute through mid-lengths and ends before blowdrying.
- Post-style (finishing gloss): Warm 1 drop between palms and smooth over the finished, dry style for mirror-like shine.
Moda stylist tipPre-style: 2–3 drops on towel-dried hair, press through mid-lengths and ends. Blow-dry normally — heat protection active. Post-style finishing: 1 drop, rub between palms until palms are nearly dry, then smooth over the finished style. Starting with palms nearly dry prevents any single section from getting too much product.

Questions? We get them.
Good to know.
The questions we hear most about this product. If yours isn’t here, a real stylist will answer.
Ask ModaHow many drops of OI Oil should I use, and does it vary by hair length?
Start with 2–3 drops for short to shoulder-length hair, and 4–5 drops for longer or thicker hair. Rub the drops between your palms until nearly dry before applying — this prevents over-concentration on any single section. You can always add more, but over-application is the most common reason clients find it heavy.
Can OI Oil be used on dry hair, or only on damp hair before blowdrying?
Both. On damp hair before heat styling it controls frizz and provides heat protection. On dry hair it adds immediate gloss and tames flyaways — use 1–2 drops maximum on dry hair, focused on ends.
I have fine hair and oils always make it greasy. Will OI Oil do the same?
OI Oil is one of the most fine-hair-friendly finishing oils we stock. The Roucou Oil base is lightweight and non-silicone, so it absorbs rather than coating. The key for fine hair is 1–2 drops maximum, rubbed completely between your palms before touching your hair, applied only to ends. Applied this way, most fine-haired clients find no greasiness.
What is the heat protection level of OI Oil and is it enough for a flat iron?
OI Oil protects to 230°C, which covers most standard flat irons and curling wands. For tools that exceed 230°C, pairing with OI All In One Milk — which also protects to 230°C — creates layered coverage. We recommend never using any flat iron above its rated temperature on colour-treated or processed hair.
How long will the 135ml OI Oil last with daily use?
At 2–3 drops daily for shoulder-length hair, the 135ml bottle contains enough for approximately 450–1,000 applications. Most clients find the 135ml bottle lasts six months to a year with daily use. The 50ml is a good starting size if you have not tried OI Oil before.
