Why we like it
The Moda Team Review
Frizz has two causes — a lifted cuticle and hair too weak to hold its shape — and most smoothing sets only treat the first. This one pairs the Mane Tamer wash duo with a weekly protein treatment, so the hair is strong enough to stay smooth on its own instead of puffing the moment humidity hits. It is the set we send home with the wavy, colour-treated client whose blowout never lasts.
Read full stylist notes
The client with thick, wavy, regularly coloured hair who has tried every smoothing shampoo and says they all "work for about an hour." Her hair is not just frizzy — it is porous from colour, so smoothing products have nothing to hold onto. Add a weekly protein treatment and the same smoothing routine suddenly lasts all day. EVO is the family-owned Australian brand we trust for no-fluff results — vegan, cruelty-free, and built to do one job well. Mane Tamer is the smoothing line for wavy and thick hair that wants polish without a keratin service. Part of the Holiday 2026 gift collection.
Moda
What’s inside — and why it’s there
The ingredients worth knowing.
- Mane Tamer's cationic smoothing polymers bind to the negatively charged damaged sites on the cuticle and form a thin film that reduces water uptake — the mechanism behind humidity resistance. Mane Attention's hydrolysed quinoa and soy proteins are low enough in molecular weight to penetrate the cortex, where they fill gaps in the keratin structure and restore tensile strength; behentrimonium methosulfate provides slip so the protein does not leave hair rough. Weekly use is deliberateprotein accumulates, and over-application stiffens the fibre.

How to use
Use it the way we would.
- Mane Tamer Shampoo: Wet hair, lather, rinse thoroughly.
- Mane Attention (weekly): Towel-blot, apply mid-lengths to ends, leave 5–10 minutes, rinse.
- Mane Tamer Conditioner: Mid-lengths to ends, 1–2 minutes, cool rinse. Daily.
Moda stylist tipProtein treatment before conditioner, never after. Shampoo, towel-blot, apply Mane Attention to mid-lengths and ends, leave 5–10 minutes, rinse — then a quick pass of Mane Tamer Conditioner to close the cuticle over the repair. Once a week only; protein is cumulative and more than that can leave hair feeling stiff.

Questions? We get them.
Good to know.
The questions we hear most about this product. If yours isn’t here, a real stylist will answer.
Ask ModaWhy is there a protein treatment in a smoothing set?
Yes, on purpose. Weak, porous hair cannot hold a smooth shape no matter how good the smoothing product is — it puffs the moment humidity hits. Mane Attention rebuilds the protein structure so the hair is strong enough to stay smooth. Smoothing plus strength lasts; smoothing alone fades by afternoon.
Last year's Mane Tamer collection had Lockdown Serum. Where did it go?
Yes, EVO changed the 2026 set. The wash duo is the same; the pre-style Lockdown Serum has been replaced with the Mane Attention Protein Treatment. If you relied on Lockdown before blow-drying, it is still available on its own and pairs perfectly with this set.
Will the protein make my hair stiff or straw-like?
No, if you use it once a week and follow with the conditioner. Mane Attention includes shea butter to keep the hair soft, and the Mane Tamer Conditioner afterwards restores slip. Stiffness only happens with over-use — protein accumulates, so more than weekly is too much for most hair.
Is this safe on my keratin smoothing treatment?
Yes. The Mane Tamer Shampoo is sulphate-free, which is the main requirement for prolonging a keratin service, and the smoothing polymers work with the treatment rather than against it. The protein treatment is also compatible — keratin services and protein repair address different layers of the hair.
How many weeks will the 150 ml treatment last?
Yes, roughly eight to ten weekly applications on medium-length hair, applied to mid-lengths and ends only. That is about the window in which most clients feel elasticity return. The 300 ml size is available separately if you want to keep it in the routine long-term.
