Foam shaving products typically use propellants and synthetic foaming agents with little protective benefit. RICA Beard Smooth Shaving Cream is a formulated emollient cream with protective and conditioning actives that help the blade glide and protect the skin from friction. It does not expand from a can; it deposits active protection directly.
Do I need to use RICA Barber Prep Emulsion before RICA Beard Smooth Shaving Cream?
You do not have to, but the shave is noticeably better when you do. The Barber Prep Emulsion softens the beard hair before the blade touches it. The Shaving Cream then lubricates and protects. Together they eliminate most of the friction that causes razor burn. On its own, the Shaving Cream still significantly outperforms foam.
Can RICA Beard Smooth Shaving Cream be used with a safety razor or straight razor?
Yes — it works with all blade types. The emollient cream formula provides the glide and protection that makes any shaving blade perform better, whether cartridge, safety or straight razor.
Should I use RICA Finishing Balm after RICA Beard Smooth Shaving Cream?
Yes — the Finishing Balm is the after-shave step that completes the ritual. Apply to damp skin immediately after rinsing the shaving cream. It calms, soothes and protects the skin from the post-shave tightness and redness that most men accept as normal but is not inevitable.
