It's the strongest of the four — 5/5 hold. The Finishing Spray is 4/5 (strong but brushable), the Styling Spray is 2/5 (light, used during styling), and the Volume Spray is a pre-styling root-lift product. The Extreme Spray gives the firmest, longest-lasting hold and is hard to brush out, so it's specifically for styles that must not move — updos, backcombing, and occasions. Maria Nila's head technician recommends it for weddings and major events.
Is it too strong for curls?
It can be used on curls — reviewers note it holds curls well without feeling heavy — but for everyday curls that you want to keep bouncy and movable, the Finishing Spray (sprayed only on the curls) is usually the better choice. Save the Extreme Spray for occasions when you need curls or a curly updo to hold firmly all day. If you do use it on curls, apply lightly from a distance so it doesn't over-set them.
When should I use it versus the Finishing Spray?
Use the Extreme Spray when a style absolutely must last and hold firm — updos, backcombed styles, weddings, events, or a long day and night out. Use the Finishing Spray for everyday strong-but-natural hold that you can still brush out and reshape. Many stylists use both: Extreme on the crown and roots for staying power, Finishing on the lengths so the hair keeps some movement. Extreme is the 'lock it down' option; Finishing is the 'hold with flexibility' option.
