Why we like it

The Moda Team Review

The formula makes its case directly: this is the only shade in the entire range built with just Basic Blue 99 and Basic Red 76 and no yellow pigment whatsoever. Every other cool shade keeps a trace of Basic Yellow 57 to hold creaminess in the result. This one does not, and that single omission is why it reads silver rather than beige.

What’s inside — and why it’s there

The ingredients worth knowing.

  • Two cationic dyes and no Basic Yellow 57 - unique in this range. Blue and red with no yellow to balance them produce a cool, slightly violet-leaning deposit, which is why this tones harder than Cool Cream and is less forgiving on very porous ends. Deposit only, no oxidant, no lift; Maria Nila specifies levels 7-10 and notes the effect may not be visible on darker hair. At level 10 expect the lower end of the four to ten wash range, because platinum takes pigment fast and releases it just as fast.

How to use

Use it the way we would.

  1. Shampoo and towel-dry until damp.
  2. Wearing gloves, comb through quickly and evenly so every section gets similar contact.
  3. Leave 3 minutes, check a section at the nape, extend toward 10 only if needed.
  4. Rinse until the water runs clear, then follow with conditioner.

Moda stylist tipWatch this one while it is on and do not walk away. It is the shade where two extra minutes is the difference between a clean silver and a flat grey, because there is no yellow pigment holding the tone warm-adjacent as it builds. Set a timer for three minutes, rinse a small section at the nape to check, and extend only if the tone has not moved far enough.

Good to know.

The questions we hear most about this product. If yours isn’t here, a real stylist will answer.

Ask Moda
I'm not going grey. Will this make my blonde look prematurely grey?

Yes, it can if you overprocess it. With no yellow pigment to keep the tone warm-adjacent, long applications on porous hair tip from silver into flat grey. Three minutes on a level 10 is usually plenty. Check at the nape before extending.

Why does this have no yellow pigment when the other cool shades do?

Yes, that omission is deliberate. Basic Yellow 57 in Cool Cream and Beige Blonde keeps their results creamy rather than slate. Removing it entirely is what lets blue and red produce a genuinely silver, faintly violet tone instead of a beige one.

Can I use it on my naturally white and grey hair?

Yes, for toning - but not for coverage. Unpigmented white hair takes cool pigment strongly and can go noticeably blue-violet, so dilute it or keep to two or three minutes. Maria Nila is clear that Colour Refresh does not cover grey; it only tones it.

Could it over-tone and leave my hair looking blue or lilac?

Yes, on very porous hair at long processing times. Basic Blue 99 and Basic Red 76 together lean faintly violet, and porous ends can take enough to show it. Keep to three minutes on bleached ends and build up rather than running the full ten.

For everyday brassiness, is this better than Cool Cream or overkill?

No, it is overkill for routine brass. Cool Cream is balanced for frequent maintenance and leaves a creamy beige. Pearl Silver is the corrective option for stubborn yellow or for pushing the tone all the way to silver, and it is less forgiving with frequent use.
