Why we like it

The Moda Team Review

It is the most versatile shade in the line once you understand it. Diluted heavily into a plain masque it gives a wearable pastel; used neat on darker coloured hair it gives a rich fuchsia; blended with other Colour Refresh shades it shifts the whole result. The formula tells you how strong it is before the description does - just two dyes at high saturation, where the subtler pinks run four in balance.

What’s inside — and why it’s there

The ingredients worth knowing.

  • Two cationic dyes at high concentration rather than four in balance - that is what a colour bomb means in practice. Maria Nila specifies levels 2 to 7 and warns that on lighter hair the effect may be too intense or may stain unless diluted. That caution is structuralpre-lightened blonde is the most porous and most negatively charged substrate this pigment will meet, so full-strength Pink Pop on level ...

How to use

Use it the way we would.

  1. Shampoo and towel-dry until damp. Apply barrier cream around the hairline and ears.
  2. Wearing gloves, apply neat for full intensity, or mix thoroughly in a bowl with an unpigmented masque for pastel.
  3. Comb through evenly and leave 3-10 minutes.
  4. Rinse with cool water until it runs clear, then follow with conditioner.

Moda stylist tipMix your dilution in a bowl and mix it fully before it goes near the hair. Squeezing pigment and plain masque into your palm and hoping leaves an unmixed streak of neat colour somewhere in the head, and at this concentration one streak lasts the life of the deposit. Bowl, brush, mix until completely uniform with no darker threads, then apply.

Questions? We get them.

Good to know.

The questions we hear most about this product. If yours isn’t here, a real stylist will answer.

Ask Moda
I'm bleached to level 10. Can I use this neat?

No. Maria Nila advises diluting with an unpigmented masque on lighter hair, and at level 10 that guidance is at its most important. Platinum hair is the most porous substrate this pigment meets, so neat application goes on like paint and outlasts the usual four to ten washes.

Will it stain my scalp and hands?

Yes, more readily than the tonal shades. Maria Nila specifies gloves to prevent staining and irritation. Apply barrier cream along the hairline and around the ears before you start, and wipe skin contact immediately rather than at the end of the processing time.

What ratio do I mix to get a proper pastel rather than a weak fuchsia?

Yes, ratio is the whole thing - start well past where you think. A small amount of pigment into a generous amount of unpigmented masque gives pastel; anything approaching equal parts gives a strong pink. Mix a test batch, strand test it, then scale up once you know.

Does it fade to an odd colour, or does it just get lighter?

No, it does not turn an unrelated colour. With only Basic Red 51 and Basic Blue 99 in the formula there are no competing pigments to separate out, so it fades lighter and slightly cooler. Four-dye shades are the ones more likely to shift tone as they release.

I have a bleach appointment coming up. Can I use this beforehand?

No. Maria Nila states Colour Refresh should not be used before any bleach treatment, as the remaining pigment can cause discolouration during lifting. With a pigment this concentrated that risk is higher than usual - wait until after your service.
