Why we like it
The Moda Team Review
Fine hair needs smoothing as much as anyone but almost every shine product flattens it. This one runs on a volatile propylene glycol and alcohol carrier that evaporates, delivering quinoa and chia peptides plus a light crosslinked silicone and leaving none of the bulk. It is the shine step we would point fine-haired clients to instead of the Mirror Gloss Masque.

Maria Nila is a Swedish line we brought in as a new brand, chosen with our younger clients in mind and because the range is genuinely playful. Every formula is 100% vegan with no animal ingredients or animal testing, the company is B Corp certified, and the packaging is CO2-compensated. Our honest read is that this is the up-and-coming brand making the biggest impact in professional haircare right now.

What’s inside — and why it’s there
The ingredients worth knowing.
- The defining feature of this formula is its carrier rather than its actives. Propylene Glycol and Alcohol Denat. occupy the first two positions, creating a thin, volatile liquid instead of an emulsified cream. That carrier deposits the actives and then flashes off, which is how the product delivers Fiber-Filling peptides - Hydrolyzed Quinoa and Salvia Hispanica seed extract - without the residual mass of a mask. Polysilicone-29 is a crosslinked silicone that forms a flexible, permeable film rather than the continuous heavy layer dimethicone produces in the Mirror Gloss Conditioner and Masque. Note that this is not a Booster MasqueMaria Nila states it works standalone but may be followed with conditioner, unlike the Booster Masques in other lines which are designed ...

How to use
Use it the way we would.
- Wash with Mirror Gloss Shampoo and towel-dry until damp rather than wet.
- Apply through the lengths until fully saturated and massage gently.
- Leave three minutes, then rinse thoroughly. Follow with conditioner if you want more moisture.
Moda stylist tipGet the water out first, properly. This is a liquid, and applied to soaking hair it runs straight down the drain. Towel-dry until damp rather than wet, then work it through until the lengths feel saturated with product rather than water. Maria Nila uses the word saturated deliberately.

Good to know.
The questions we hear most about this product. If yours isn’t here, a real stylist will answer.
Ask ModaDoes this replace my conditioner the way the Booster Masques do?
No. That is the key difference. Maria Nila's Booster Masques are designed to replace conditioner and mask outright. For this one the brand says it works standalone but you can follow with conditioner for more moisture. Treat it as an added shine step rather than a substitute for conditioning.
Alcohol is the second ingredient. Will that dry out my bleached hair?
No, not in a rinse-out product used this way. Alcohol Denat. here is a volatile carrier that evaporates rather than a leave-on drying agent, and it is what keeps the product weightless. That said, if your hair is already very dry, the Mirror Gloss Masque is the better choice.
Maria Nila claims 74% more shine. What is that actually measured against?
Yes, worth knowing: the brand states that figure against untreated bleached hair, not against your current conditioner. Pre-lightened hair starts from a very rough, low-reflectance baseline, so the improvement measures large. Expect a clear result on damaged blonde and a subtler one on healthy virgin hair.
Can I use this every wash, or will the silicone build up on fine hair?
Yes, every wash is fine. Polysilicone-29 forms a lighter, more permeable film than the dimethicone in the Conditioner and Masque, and there are no butters or heavy oils to accumulate. Fine hair tolerates this far better than a traditional mask, which is the whole point of the format.
Should I buy this or the Mirror Gloss Masque if I want shine before a wedding?
Yes, hair type decides it. The Masque contains synthetic mica and titanium dioxide for a more visible reflective finish, so it wins on thick or coarse hair. On fine hair those richer ingredients cost you volume, and this gives shine while your style still holds. Fine hair here; thick hair there.
