A proper detox shampoo is the product clients most often need and least often own, and most clarifiers on the market are so sulphate-heavy we cannot recommend them to anyone with a scalp. Maria Nila did the cleansing work with glycolic, malic, lactic and salicylic acids over a mild surfactant base instead - acids loosen residue rather than scouring it off, which is how a sulphate-free formula can still be genuinely deep-cleansing. Aloe vera and peppermint keep it from feeling as brutal as the job it is doing.

Maria Nila is the newest brand on our shelves and a deliberate addition - the up-and-coming line making the biggest impact in professional haircare right now, brought in with our younger clients in mind because the range is playful, 100% vegan and cruelty-free, and made in Sweden. Purifying Cleanse earned its place because the detox category has barely moved in twenty years: most clarifiers are sulphate-heavy and punishing enough that we cannot put them in a client's hands. Use a scalp brush while it sits so the loosened residue actually lifts away, and always follow with a masque or conditioner. Detox shampoo used alone leaves hair squeaky and the cuticle open, which people mistake for damage; it is just unfinished.

No set schedule - Maria Nila position it as a reset used when needed rather than a weekly fixture. Heavy dry shampoo users may want it every couple of weeks; most people need it far less. Always follow it with a masque or conditioner, which is what stops it feeling stripping.
It is sulphate-free. Can it genuinely clear months of dry shampoo buildup?
Yes, because the cleansing is done by acids rather than by surfactant strength. Glycolic, malic, lactic and salicylic acids dissolve the bonds holding residue to the fibre. The trade-off is that it needs contact time - a thirty-second lather-and-rinse will not do it.
I had a toner put on last week. Will this pull it straight back out?
Yes, most likely - a deep cleanse removes deposited toner along with everything else, and Maria Nila do not state the Colour Guard Complex in this formula the way they do for Head & Hair Heal. Use it before your colour appointment, not after. Your stylist would far rather start on clean hair.
My scalp gets both oily and itchy. Should I use this or Head & Hair Heal?
No single answer, so start with what came first. Itch caused by buildup settles once this clears it. Itch that predates the oiliness is a sensitivity problem and needs Head & Hair Heal Shampoo instead. Some people run this occasionally and Head & Hair Heal the rest of the time - that combination works well.
Why does my hair feel squeaky and rough right after using this?
Yes, that is expected and it is not damage. With the residue gone there is nothing coating the cuticle, so you are feeling bare hair - a sensation most people have not had in years. It is why Maria Nila instruct you to follow with a masque and conditioner. Skip that step and it stays rough.
