Yes. Dimethyl ether propels it out as a light foam, which collapses into a true paste under the warmth and pressure of your palms. That is why the directions say to massage it to activate. On the hair it behaves and holds exactly like a paste.
Every tub paste I have tried made my fine hair look greasy. Will this too?
No. The thickening here comes from hydrated silica particles, not from waxes or butters, so nothing oily is deposited on the fibre. The finish is neutral rather than glossy, and because it emulsifies in your palms first you use far less product per application.
Hold is rated 2 out of 5. Will that carry a short cut through a full workday?
Yes, for a lived-in shape with separation and grip. No, if you want the hair standing up in a fixed sculpted form. The VP/VA film is deliberately flexible so it bends and recovers. For rigid structure, step up to Power Powder at hold 4 out of 5.
Can I restyle in the afternoon, or does it set hard once it dries?
Yes, you can restyle. The vinyl acetate portion of the copolymer keeps the dried film soft at body temperature, so warming it between your palms and running your fingers through re-activates the shape without adding more product or rewashing.
