The amphoteric film-former gives firm hold with almost no surface tack — the hair moves, it just does not fall flat.

The ingredients worth knowing.
- The distinguishing polymer is methacryloyl ethyl betaine/acrylates copolymer — amphoteric, meaning it carries cationic and anionic groups on the same backbone. That internal charge balance lets the film bind firmly to the cuticle while keeping its surface energy low, which is why hold 4 arrives without the tack you would expect at that strength, and why the film resists plasticising in humid air. Because it is delivered as a liquid rather than a foam, polymer deposition per strand is thinner and more uniform than a mousse of equivalent hold, so the hair holds its position without carrying visible or tactile product. PEG-12 dimethicone, water-soluble rather than cyclic, reduces mechanical drag during brushing and rinses cleanly instead of accumulating.

Ask ModaIs this sprayed onto finished hair like a hairspray, or before I dry it?
No, it is not a finishing spray. Maria Nila build it as a wet product: it goes onto towel-dried damp hair and needs the blow-dry to set. Used on dry hair it has almost nothing to distribute into and delivers very little. Styling Spray or Finishing Spray are the dry-stage options.
Volume Spray and Styling Mousse are both hold 4. Which one should I actually buy?
Yes, they overlap on paper. The difference is format: the mousse is a foam carrying more polymer per application, so it builds maximum structure on very fine or very soft hair. The spray is a liquid that deposits a thinner, more even film, so it suits hair that wants lift without feeling any product.
My volume always drops the second the weather turns humid. Will this hold up?
Yes, better than most. The amphoteric copolymer carries balanced positive and negative charges, which keeps the dried film from softening as it absorbs atmospheric moisture. Volume collapse in humidity is usually a plasticised film giving way. For extreme humidity, layer Finishing Spray over the finished style as well.
Does it double as heat protection since I am using it before the dryer anyway?
No. Maria Nila make no thermal protection claim for it and there is no heat-protective ingredient on the list. The Colour Guard Complex addresses UV and free radicals, which is a different exposure. Layer Quick Dry Heat Spray or Shaping Heat Spray over the same damp hair before you dry.
Will it leave my hair sticky or dull the shine on a smooth blow-dry?
No. Maria Nila state it absorbs easily and blow-dries out with no residue or stickiness, and the water-soluble PEG-12 dimethicone actually reduces brush drag and adds light rather than dulling it. The low surface tack is a property of the amphoteric polymer, not a coating that wears off.
