What it does

  • Warms up brown that was toned too ashy
  • Adds a copper glow that stops brown reading as mud
  • Concentrates where colour has faded hardest
  • Conditions while it deposits - no developer needed

Perfect for

  • Colour-treated medium to dark hair
  • Levels 2 to 7

How to use

  1. Shampoo and towel-dry until damp.
  2. Wearing gloves, comb through, concentrating on faded mid-lengths and ends first.
  3. Leave 3-10 minutes - longer gives deeper, warmer caramel.
  4. Rinse until the water runs clear, then follow with conditioner.

Why we like it

The Moda Team Review

It fixes a very specific and very common regret: brown hair toned neutral or ash in the salon that has settled somewhere lifeless. The caramel supplies depth and the copper glow stops it reading as mud, and because cationic pigment concentrates where colour has faded hardest, the warmth lands in the mid-lengths and ends where a brunette actually needs it.

What’s inside — and why it’s there

The ingredients worth knowing.

  • The same three cationic dyes as Beige Brown, with the ratio pushed warm instead of held neutral - that single difference is the entire shade. Positively charged pigment binds to the more negatively charged, more porous surface of processed hair, so the caramel concentrates in faded mid-lengths and ends. Deposit onlyno oxidant, no lift. The honest caveat on any warm shade is that warm pigment fades warm, drifting slightly more copper as it releases.

How to use

Use it the way we would.

Moda stylist tipIf you have old highlights or balayage anywhere in your brown, clip those pieces out and treat them separately at a shorter time. Lightened sections are dramatically more porous than the surrounding natural brown and take warm pigment at two or three times the intensity - which turns a subtle caramel refresh into visible copper stripes. Do the bulk of the head first, then the lightened pieces for two or three minutes at the end.

Ask Moda
My brown was toned ash and went flat. Can this bring it back without looking obviously dyed?

Yes. The deposit is sheer and sits close to your existing depth, so it reads as richness returning rather than as new colour. Start at three to five minutes for a natural result - ten minutes is for hair that has faded a long way, not for a mild ash correction.

Is there a risk this reads orange rather than caramel?

Yes, on porous or previously lightened hair. Basic Blue 99 is present to anchor the tone, but it is a small proportion and porous sections grab the warm pigments faster. Keep the time short on lightened pieces, or blend in a little Beige Brown to raise the neutralising blue.

I'm a natural level 2. Will caramel show up on hair this dark?

No, not as visible caramel. Level 2 is the bottom of the stated range, and a warm deposit on near-black hair reads as a subtle glow in direct light rather than a colour change. There is no lift in this formula, so it cannot make dark hair lighter to show the tone.

I have a colour appointment in two weeks. Should I wait?

Yes, tell your stylist either way. Maria Nila advises against using Colour Refresh before any bleach treatment, as remaining pigment can cause discolouration during lifting. For a straightforward tint it is usually not a problem, but your colourist needs to know what is sitting on the hair before they formulate.

Does the copper glow fade before the brown does, leaving it flat again?

No - it fades the other way. Warm pigment releases warm, so as the deposit goes it drifts slightly more copper before disappearing rather than dropping back to flat. On most brunettes that reads as a sun-lifted end to the cycle rather than a problem.
