Why we like it

The Moda Team Review

A fibre cream defines what the hair is already doing rather than forcing it somewhere new, which is why this is the wax to hand someone who has tried a wax once and hated it. Kaolin keeps the finish low-shine and the feel dry and workable, while shea butter and olive oil unsaponifiables condition rather than coat. At hold 3 of 5 it stays reworkable all day.

What’s inside — and why it’s there

The ingredients worth knowing.

  • A fibre cream builds texture by depositing in discrete strands rather than as a continuous film. PVP and glyceryl rosinate supply the tack that makes the cream string out between the fingers, and VP/VA copolymer paired with AMP-acrylates/allyl methacrylate copolymer forms the hold — two film-formers with different flexibility profiles, so the combined film grips without reaching a hard set. Kaolin is the finish controla platy clay that absorbs a small fraction of surface sebum and scatters incident light diffusely, giving low shine and the dry, reworkab...

How to use

Use it the way we would.

  1. Take a small amount and massage between the palms to warm and activate.
  2. Stretch it between your hands until it shows fibrous threads.
  3. Apply to damp or dry hair with fingertips, pinching and twisting rather than smoothing.
  4. Build in thin layers using only what remains on your fingers.
  5. Rework and reshape through the day — it stays pliable.

Moda stylist tipStretch it between your palms until you can see threads, then apply with fingertips only. Pressing it on with flat palms lays down an even film, which is the opposite of what a fibre cream is for — pinch, twist and place instead.

Good to know.

The questions we hear most about this product. If yours isn’t here, a real stylist will answer.

Ask Moda
What is a fibre cream? Is it a wax, a paste or a cream?

Yes to all three, in a sense. It has the body of a cream, the tack of a paste and the hold of a light wax. The defining feature is that it strings into fibres between your fingers, so it deposits in strands and creates separation rather than laying down a smooth, even coating.

My hair is fine and every wax I have tried has made it look greasy and flat. Will this?

No, and Maria Nila formulate it specifically not to weigh hair down. Kaolin clay absorbs surface oil and keeps the feel dry rather than coated. Apply to mid-lengths and ends first and let the root take only what is left on your fingers — greasiness is almost always a placement problem.

Can I reshape my hair at lunchtime, or does it set once and stay set?

Yes, it stays workable. The two film-formers grip without reaching a hard set, which is the trade-off of choosing hold 3 over hold 4 or 5. You can run your hands through it and rebuild the shape without adding more product. Extreme Wax would not allow that.

Does the shea butter and olive oil in it leave a residue I will need to double shampoo out?

No. The olive component is unsaponifiables — the phytosterol and tocopherol fraction — not the triglyceride oil, so it conditions the surface without building a greasy layer. Shea is present at a level that keeps the cream pliable rather than loading the hair. One normal shampoo clears it.

I have never used a wax before. Should I start with this one or go straight to a stronger hold?

Yes, start here. Hold 3 is forgiving — if you use too much or place it badly you can rework it, which you cannot do with a hold 5 forming wax. Learn how much your hair actually needs on this one, then move up to Fixating or Extreme only if you find it is not holding.
