Why we like it

The Moda Team Review

Most dry texture sprays are alcohol plus a hold polymer, and a second coat of polymer over the first is what makes them go crisp and tacky. Here most of the texture comes from silica dimethicone silylate — a hydrophobic silica that works by raising friction between strands rather than by film thickness. Friction-based texture layers on itself without going brittle, which is why Maria Nila can genuinely say you can top it up through the day.

The ingredients worth knowing.

How to use

Use it the way we would.

  1. Shake the can well.
  2. Spray onto dry hair from 20 to 30 cm, through both the lengths and the roots.
  3. Wait half a minute, shake out at the roots with your fingertips, and repeat for more texture.

Moda stylist tipBuild it in two light passes with thirty seconds between them. The propellant and alcohol have to flash off before the silica settles. Touch or brush while the carrier is still wet and you drag the whole layer down the shaft — which is how a volume spray ends up flattening hair.

Good to know.

The questions we hear most about this product. If yours isn’t here, a real stylist will answer.

Ask Moda
It comes in 100 ml and 250 ml. Which size should I start with?

Yes, start with the 100 ml if this is your first dry texture spray or you travel with it, since aerosols are size-restricted in cabin baggage. Choose the 250 ml if you already know you top up daily; the larger can is markedly better value per millilitre.

Can I genuinely reapply this in the afternoon without my hair going crunchy?

Yes, and there is a reason it works here. Most of the texture is friction from hydrophobic silica, not thickness of polymer film. Extra friction simply adds to existing friction, whereas a second polymer coat over a first is what turns brittle on other texture sprays.

Is a dry texture spray just a dry shampoo by another name?

No, they do opposite things. A dry shampoo uses hygroscopic starch to absorb sebum. The silica here is surface-treated to repel water, so it creates grip and volume but lifts no oil at all. For greasy roots you need Maria Nila Cleansing Powder instead.

It is alcohol-based. Won't that dry my hair out with daily use?

No, not the way a plain alcohol formula would. Maria Nila includes squalane and sunflower seed extract specifically to maintain moisture levels in the hair and scalp, with glycerin supporting them. That combination is unusual in an aerosol texturiser and is there to offset the carrier.

Will it lift my roots, or is it only for texture through the lengths?

Yes, roots included. Maria Nila directs it through both lengths and roots to create volume and texture. The trick is lifting each section straight up and spraying into the exposed root underneath, rather than spraying at hair lying flat against the scalp.
