This is not the same as the original Nº.7 Bonding Oil — and that distinction matters for how you recommend it. The Bonding Oil is applied to damp hair before blow-drying or styling as a pre-style treatment. The °7 Shine Serum Oil Mist is applied to dry, already-styled hair as a post-style finishing step, or to refresh second or third-day hair between washes. They are designed to be used at different stages of the routine, not interchangeably — and OLAPLEX recommends both.
The bi-phase format is the key to how this works. The formula separates into two distinct phases that must be shaken together before each use — a reparative serum layer powered by OLAPLEX's patented bond-building technology, and a lightweight oil layer of Kalahari Melon Seed Oil, Kukui Nut Oil, and Rose Hip Fruit Extract. The serum phase treats the hair from within; the oil phase adds the instant shine and nourishing surface hydration. Neither a serum alone nor an oil alone can achieve both simultaneously. Combining them into a single formula requires a bi-phase system where the two phases remain separate until shaken. Shake the bottle firmly for several seconds before every single spray — not just the first use. The bi-phase formula re-separates between applications, and skipping the shake means one phase dominates the spray (usually the oil, which is heavier). The result is greasiness rather than the intended balanced serum-oil mist. Two to four sprays is enough for most lengths; apply more by shaking and spraying again rather than holding the spray continuous. This is the most common application error and it is entirely avoidable.
For fine hair: one to two sprays maximum, held 20–30cm from dry hair with the can moving rather than stationary. For extensions and protective styles: mist directly and let it absorb without touching — the super-fine format distributes evenly without displacing the style.
