Yes — both use OLAPLEX bond-building technology, but Nº.4 CURL is specifically formulated for curly and textured hair with a moisture-rich formula that cleanses without stripping the natural oils that curly hair needs. Standard Nº.4 works on all types but isn't curl-specific.
Do I need to use the full OLAPLEX Bond Shaper Curl system, or can I use Nº.4 CURL on its own?
No — Nº.4 CURL works as a standalone shampoo, but it performs best as part of the Bond Shaper Curl system with Nº.5 CURL conditioner. Adding Nº.10 gel at the styling step extends bond care and definition through the complete wash-and-style routine.
I currently use Nº.3 for bond repair. Do I still need that if I switch to Nº.4 CURL?
Yes — Nº.3 or Nº.3PLUS is a pre-wash treatment that works on the hair structure before shampooing. Nº.4 CURL maintains bond care at the cleanse step. They address different moments in the routine and work together rather than replacing each other.
My curly hair is colour-treated. Is Nº.4 CURL colour-safe?
Yes — Nº.4 CURL is colour-safe. Curly, colour-treated hair is often significantly more porous and benefits strongly from OLAPLEX bond care at both the pre-wash and wash steps.
Can I use Nº.4 CURL on wavy hair, or is it only for very curly or coily hair?
Yes — Nº.4 CURL is appropriate for wavy, curly and coily hair. Wavy hair that struggles with frizz, dryness, or loss of wave definition benefits from the same moisture-focused approach as curlier textures.
