Why we like it
The Moda Team Review
Davines is the shampoo at the Moda sink for every single client — this is the product that starts every blonde client's in-salon experience. We recommend it for anyone who notices their blonde pulling warm between appointments, or whose hair feels flat and dull from hard water. The chelating action clears what builds up; the Jagua Blue keeps tone from sliding.

The client who comes in every 6 weeks for balayage and lives in a hard water area. Her tones look great right after her appointment but go dull and warm within two to three weeks. She blames her colour — but the culprit is mineral buildup on the hair shaft. This shampoo addresses that directly, every wash, without the harshness of a clarifying treatment. Davines is a family-owned Italian haircare brand founded in Parma in 1983. We chose them because their commitment to sustainable farming practices aligned with ours as parents — and because they invest in stylist education the way we do at Moda. We are a Platinum Davines salon and have trained with them every year, including at their headquarters in Parma, Italy.

How to use
Use it the way we would.
- Apply to scalp and damp hair. Massage gently from roots through lengths. Rinse thoroughly. Repeat if hard water buildup is present (first lather will be thin). Follow with HOG Rich Conditioner or HOG Instant Bonding Glow.
Moda stylist tipApply to damp hair — not soaking wet. Too much water dilutes the formula before it can work. If lather is poor on the first pass, that's mineral buildup: rinse and repeat. The second application always lathers more fully and delivers the full chelating result.

Questions? We get them.
Good to know.
The questions we hear most about this product. If yours isn’t here, a real stylist will answer.
Ask ModaWhat does "chelating" mean and why does it matter for blonde hair?
Yes — chelating is a real mechanism that affects how your blonde looks. The shampoo binds to and removes mineral deposits — calcium, magnesium, iron — that accumulate from hard water and leave a film on the hair shaft. On blonde hair, this film dulls tone and makes hair look flat and resistant to toning. The chelating action restores clarity without stripping colour.
Is this a purple shampoo?
No. It uses Jagua Blue Extract — a plant pigment from the Genipa Americana fruit in Colombia — rather than synthetic violet dyes. It balances blonde tone more gently and doesn't carry the over-toning risk that comes with heavy purple formulas. Suitable for daily use without the risk of turning hair ashy.
Why doesn't this shampoo lather well on the first wash?
That's the chelating action working — mineral buildup on the hair shaft absorbs the lather before it can foam properly. A thin or slow lather on the first application is a reliable sign that the shampoo is working. Rinse and repeat; the second application will lather significantly better once the mineral layer has been lifted.
Can I use HOG Chelating Shampoo if I also use a bond treatment at the salon?
Yes — the HOG Shampoo is fully compatible with in-salon bond treatments including Olaplex and K18. The chelating action clears mineral buildup but does not strip the bonds repaired during a professional treatment. The HOG Rich Conditioner and Instant Bonding Glow continue the bond-repair work at home.
Is HOG Chelating Shampoo gentle enough for every-day use?
Yes. Davines designed it as the everyday cleanser of the HOG routine — it's sulfate-free, 83.4% naturally derived, and gentle enough for regular use on colour-treated and lightened hair. It is not a clarifying shampoo in the harsh traditional sense; the chelating complex is targeted and gentler on the hair fibre.
