A thickening leave-in lotion that is applied at the root before blow-drying to deliver instant lift, body and density for fine or thinning hair β without a coated, heavy finish.
The Moda Team Review
Body Mass is the bridge between the shower and the blow-dry for fine hair that washes clean and goes flat before the towel is off. It is applied to the root on wet hair β not the lengths, not the ends β and its job is to give the follicle area something to grip during the blow-dry so the volume you create with the brush actually stays. The Oleanolic Acid and tripeptide complex pick up where Plumping Wash left off, continuing the density-building work at the root while the blow-dryer does the physical lifting.
This is the PLUMPING step most clients skip because they think it will weigh their hair down. It does not β applied only at the root on wet hair and blown out immediately, it vanishes into the hair and leaves behind fullness, not product. The difference between a blowout done with Body Mass and one done without is immediately visible at the crown. It is one of those products where you notice it is missing more than you notice it is there.
Why Moda Carries This
As a White Haven Kevin Murphy salon, we train in the full PLUMPING regimen and this is the step we most consistently have to walk clients through in person. Once they understand root-only application on wet hair before heat, they rarely leave it out again. Kevin Murphy's skincare-for-hair philosophy shows in this formula β the actives are the same ones at work in the Wash and Rinse, building density cumulatively through every step of the routine.
Key Active Ingredients
-
Oleanolic Acid + Tripeptide Complex: Continues the anagen-phase lengthening work of Plumping Wash at the root, building density over time with consistent use.
-
Rice Amino Acids: Expand the diameter of fine hair strands and provide grip for the blow-dry, helping volume hold through the day.
-
Zingiber Officinale (Ginger) Root Extract: Stimulates scalp microcirculation at the follicle for continued density support through the styling step.
-
Urtica Dioica (Nettle) Extract: Fortifies the strand and supports follicle health as the routine's third active step.
Moda Pro Tip
Apply Body Mass to the root area only on soaking wet hair β not damp, wet. Distribute through the root with fingers, then blow-dry immediately using a round brush or your hands for lift. The formula is activated by heat and grip; it needs the wet-to-dry transition to work properly. Using it on dry or damp hair, or applying to the lengths, will not give you the same result and may leave a residue.
Not the Right Fit If...
If your primary concern is dry, damaged or porous ends rather than root volume and density, Body Mass is not the product for those ends β it is a root treatment. For dry lengths, look at Staying Alive or Everlasting Colour Leave-In instead. Body Mass does one thing very well: root density and lift before heat.
How To Use
- After rinsing out Plumping Rinse, towel-dry to remove excess water β hair should still be wet, not damp.
- Apply Body Mass to the root area only, working through the crown and any flat zones.
- Do not apply to mid-lengths or ends.
- Blow-dry immediately using a round brush for maximum lift, or diffuse if preferred.
- Use daily as the third step in the PLUMPING routine.
