Routine step
Why we like it
The Moda Team Review
The PLUMPING routine does not stop at the shower. For fine-haired clients who wash every other day or less, Powder Puff is often the product they reach for most — it keeps the volume going on days two and three without restarting the whole routine. We recommend it to every PLUMPING client as the closer.
Read full stylist notes
The client who does a full PLUMPING blowout on Monday, looks great Monday and Tuesday morning, and by Tuesday afternoon the crown has gone flat and she is wearing it in a ponytail by Wednesday. Powder Puff is the Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning product — two minutes at the root, section by section, and the blowout continues. Kevin Murphy built the PLUMPING system to cover the full week, not just wash day. Powder Puff is the finishing product that proves that — it is not an afterthought, it is the closer. As a White Haven Kevin Murphy salon we recommend it as part of the complete routine because volume that only lasts one day is not a volume routine.

Questions? We get them.
Good to know.
The questions we hear most about this product. If yours isn’t here, a real stylist will answer.
Ask ModaIs Powder Puff the same as a dry shampoo, or does it do something different?
No — Powder Puff is engineered specifically for volume at the root, not oil absorption. The Silica Microspheres physically expand the hair shaft to create structural lift. Dry shampoo absorbs oil as its primary function with some texture as a secondary benefit. If root volume is the goal, Powder Puff outperforms dry shampoo specifically on lift. If oil absorption is the primary need, Fresh Hair dry shampoo is the right tool.
Will Powder Puff leave a white or grey cast on dark hair?
No — if applied in small amounts and massaged in properly before lifting. The key is tapping rather than spraying generously and letting it sit before working it in. Over-applying and not massaging in is what causes visible residue. On dark hair, start with less than you think you need.
Can I use Powder Puff every day or will it build up?
Daily use is not ideal — the powders will accumulate at the scalp and can create buildup that makes the hair feel coated and heavy over time. Use it on the days between washes, then shampoo thoroughly with Plumping Wash (or Maxi Wash monthly) to clear any residue.
I have medium-thickness hair that goes flat at the crown. Is Powder Puff only for fine hair?
No. Powder Puff works well on medium-density hair that loses volume at the crown between washes — the flat crown problem is not exclusive to fine hair. The application is the same: root only, small amounts, section by section, wait before massaging in.
Can Powder Puff be used on freshly blow-dried hair or only on second-day hair?
Both. On freshly blown-out fine hair, a small amount of Powder Puff at the crown and part line right at the end adds the kind of matte, gripped finish that makes the style hold longer and look intentionally styled rather than freshly washed-and-flat. Used this way, it is a finishing step rather than a reset.
