Why we like it

The Moda Team Review

Most dry shampoos treat the scalp as collateral damage. This one is built at hold 1 out of 5 — the lowest in the Maria Nila styling range — with a short rice starch formula and nothing fighting for grip. It is the honest recommendation for anyone who stopped using dry shampoo because their scalp could not tolerate it.

What’s inside — and why it’s there

The ingredients worth knowing.

  • Rice starch granules present a high surface area to the scalp and bind free sebum on contact, lifting oil off the root shaft rather than coating it. Isopropyl myristate acts as the dispersing phase so the starch lands as an even micro-layer instead of clumping along the part. Cetrimonium chloride deposits a light cationic charge on the cuticle, neutralising the static generated by brushing dry powder through dry hair. The cooling sensation is the alcohol and propellant evaporating off the skin — a physical effect, not an active scalp treatment.

How to use

Use it the way we would.

  1. Shake the can well.
  2. Spray onto dry roots from 10–18 cm, section by section.
  3. Wait a full minute before touching the hair.
  4. Massage with fingertips, then brush through.
  5. On wash day, apply to clean dry roots and hairline to stay ahead of grease.

Moda stylist tipSpray, then wait a full minute before you brush. The grey cast people blame on dry shampoo comes from brushing too early — that smears sebum through the powder instead of letting the starch lift it out.

Good to know.

The questions we hear most about this product. If yours isn’t here, a real stylist will answer.

Ask Moda
My scalp stings when I use aerosol dry shampoo. Will this one do the same?

No. The formula is unusually short — rice starch, an emollient ester, a conditioning quat and silica — so there is far less in it to react to. The cool flash you feel on contact is the propellant evaporating, not a stinging active. Hold the can at least 10 cm from the scalp to keep that flash gentle.

Maria Nila makes three dry shampoos. Why would I choose Soothing over the other two?

Yes, there is a clear reason. Soothing is the comfort option at hold 1 with a cooling finish and no added grip. Invisidry is for leaving zero trace on dark hair. Dry Shampoo sits at hold 2 and is built for volume and texture. Choose Soothing when the scalp, not the style, is what you are solving for.

Will this fix my dandruff or an itchy, flaking scalp?

No. This is a styling product that makes oily roots look clean and feels cooling while it does it. It is not a treatment and contains no anti-dandruff active. If you are flaking or genuinely inflamed, start with the Maria Nila Head & Hair Heal range and use this only on the days in between.

Can I use it on a blow-dry I want to keep for three days, or will it flatten the shape?

Yes. At hold 1 it adds no grip and no weight, so it will not collapse or stiffen a blow-dry. It also will not rebuild lift once the shape has dropped. If you need the root volume back on day three, layer Maria Nila Power Powder underneath rather than reaching for more of this.

The scent on most dry shampoos is too sweet for me. What does this one smell like?

No, it is not a sweet one. Maria Nila built this around a soft floral accord of iris, white jasmine and amber rather than the pear scent on Dry Shampoo. It reads closer to a fine fragrance than a supermarket aerosol, which matters when it is sitting at your hairline all day.
