Ask ModaI've used matte pastes before that feel crunchy and stiff all day. Will No. 301 do that?
No. The natural-origin opacifying waxes in No. 301 form a conditioning film rather than a hard cast — the result is strong hold with genuine texture rather than the crunchy, rigid feel of polymer-based paste formulas. The Botanical Complex and Sunflower Oil keep the hair fibre supple under the hold.
How much should I use? I tend to over-apply and then my hair looks overdone.
Start with a pea-sized amount — smaller than you'd expect. Warm it thoroughly between the palms until it becomes almost translucent and emulsified, then work through dry hair. No. 301 builds with technique rather than quantity. Apply to the roots first for maximum hold at the base, then work outward through the lengths.
Will No. 301 wash out easily or does it take multiple shampoo cycles?
Yes, it washes out cleanly with one good shampoo — No. 101 Normalizing Daily Shampoo is specifically recommended by DEPOT® for daily paste and gel users. The natural-origin wax base doesn't require special clarifying treatments or double-shampooing under normal use conditions.
I have fine hair. Will a strong-hold paste like No. 301 flatten my hair or make it look thin?
With the right technique, no. Apply to dry hair only and work in small amounts starting at the roots to lift rather than weigh down. For extra root lift, pair with No. 309 Texturizing Dust at the root before applying No. 301 through the lengths.
Does No. 301 have any shine at all or is it completely flat matte?
No. 301 delivers a pure opaque matte finish — it's the flattest matte in the DEPOT® range with no shine component. If a demi-matte result with some natural sheen is preferred, No. 302 Clay Pomade achieves a middle ground. For shine alongside strong hold, No. 304 Hold Strong Gel is the right choice.
