Ask ModaI hate the burning sting of traditional aftershaves. Will No. 407 do that?
No. No. 407 has a slightly alcohol-based formula for refreshing and antiseptic benefit, but it's far from the harsh alcohol shock of traditional astringent aftershaves. The Bisabolol, Pro-Vitamin B5, Allantoin, and Glycerin are all soothing, regenerating, and conditioning — they counterbalance the alcohol rather than amplify it. Apply by tapping rather than rubbing for the most comfortable experience.
Is No. 407 a moisturiser? My skin gets dry and tight after shaving.
It has moisturising properties through its Glycerin (humectant) and Bisabolol (conditioning), but it's primarily a restoring and refreshing aftershave lotion rather than a dedicated moisturiser. For skin that gets very dry and tight after shaving, follow No. 407 with a dedicated moisturiser or apply No. 401 Pre & Post Shave Cream as a post-shave step before No. 407.
Can I use No. 407 as an everyday skin refresher, not just after shaving?
Yes. No. 407 works well as a daytime skin refresh — DEPOT® specifically recommends it can be applied as needed during the day to areas of sensitivity, not just immediately after shaving. The Pro-Vitamin B5 and Bisabolol provide real skin-conditioning benefits on contact.
I get ingrown hairs. Is No. 407 going to help with that specifically?
Partially. No. 407's Allantoin has soothing properties that can help reduce the inflammation associated with ingrown hairs, and the slightly alcohol-based formula provides mild antiseptic action that reduces bacterial risk at the follicle. However, ingrown hairs are primarily a preparation and technique issue — consistent pre-shave preparation with No. 401 addresses the root cause.
Why does it say to apply by tapping and not rubbing? Does it actually matter?
Yes, it matters. Freshly shaved skin has microscopically compromised surface integrity — rubbing applies friction to already-stressed skin, which increases redness and sensitivity. Tapping allows the formula to make contact and absorb without adding mechanical irritation and allows better, more even distribution across the skin.
