Ask ModaWhen do I apply RICA Finishing Balm — before or after drying my face?
Immediately after rinsing the shaving cream, on damp skin — not after drying. Damp skin absorbs the emollient actives more effectively. Pat gently with a towel first to remove excess water, then apply the balm to still-damp skin. The balm sets quickly and the skin is calm within a minute.
Can RICA Finishing Balm replace my aftershave?
Yes — it is designed to replace alcohol-based aftershave with something that actually helps the skin rather than stinging and drying it. If you are using aftershave for fragrance, layer the Finishing Balm first and add fragrance separately.
Will RICA Finishing Balm leave my face feeling greasy?
Not if applied correctly. Apply to damp skin and let it absorb — the formula is designed to absorb rather than sit on the surface. A thin layer patted in absorbs within a minute. Using too much or applying to dry skin is what creates a greasy feel.
Can RICA Finishing Balm be used on the beard area as well as shaved skin?
Yes — it can be applied across the entire jaw, beard and shaved areas. For the beard specifically, the Beard Oil is the dedicated conditioning product, but the Finishing Balm can be applied as a calming layer across the whole area after shaving the edges or contours of the beard.
Is the Rica shaving ritual — Prep Emulsion, Shaving Cream, Finishing Balm — worth doing every shave?
Yes, particularly if you currently experience any irritation, razor burn or post-shave tightness. The three steps are each under two minutes combined. The Prep softens, the Cream protects, the Balm calms. The shave that used to hurt does not anymore — and the skin improves noticeably with consistent use.
