Ask ModaHow is the Cleansing Powder different from the Power Powder and Invisidry?
They sit on a spectrum. The Cleansing Powder is the balanced middle — a loose rice-starch powder that absorbs oil (like a dry shampoo) while adding light texture and volume. Compared with the Power Powder, it's more absorbent but gives less volume (the Power Powder is the volume specialist). Compared with the aerosol Invisidry, it adds a bit more texture and volume. So choose the Cleansing Powder for oil absorption plus texture, the Power Powder for maximum volume, and the Invisidry for the quickest, most invisible refresh.
How do I apply a loose powder without a mess?
Always apply it with your fingers or a brush rather than tipping it straight onto your head — the bottle's holes are large, so pouring it directly is hard to control and wasteful. Tap a small amount into your palm or onto a brush first, then work it into the roots or lengths. Use a little at a time and build up. It's also worth protecting your clothes from any stray powder while you apply. Then brush through for an even, matte finish.
Can I use it on the lengths, not just the roots?
Yes — that's part of what makes it versatile. Use it at the greasy roots to absorb oil and refresh (dry shampoo function), or distribute it through the lengths to create structure and texture (styling function). It's a two-in-one: a cleansing dry-shampoo powder and a texturiser. Working it through the mid-lengths and ends gives that gritty, undone, textured feel, useful for updos and tousled styles as well as refreshing.
Does it leave a white cast?
It's rice-starch based and designed to leave a matte, clean finish, but as with any loose powder, over-applying can show, especially on very dark hair. Use a small amount, apply with fingers or a brush, and work it in thoroughly, brushing through to blend. If you have very dark hair and want a guaranteed no-trace refresh, the aerosol Invisidry is the dedicated invisible option; the Cleansing Powder trades a little of that for added texture and volume.
