Moda stylist tipThe brighter and truer you want the red, the paler the base needs to be — vivid red shows best on pre-lightened or light hair; on dark brunette it adds rich red dimension, not a bright pop. Red fades fastest, so top up often (even weekly). Strand-test and wear gloves — red is the most staining shade, so protect skin, towels, and surfaces. Won't lighten; tell your colourist before bleaching.

Ask ModaWhat's the difference between Bright Red and Autumn Red?
They're both reds at different depths and brightness. Bright Red is a bold, true, vivid red — the statement shade, showing brightest on lighter or pre-lightened hair. Autumn Red is a deeper, warmer, more auburn red, which sits more naturally on brunette and warm-red bases. Choose Bright Red for a vivid, eye-catching red pop; choose Autumn Red for a rich, deep, warm auburn. You can also mix the two to land on your perfect red. Both refresh fast-fading red colour and condition the hair.
Will it lighten my hair or cover grey?
No to both. It only deposits red tone — it can't lighten, as it has no bleach. And the semi-permanent pigments don't cover grey (results on grey vary and aren't recommended). Bright Red shows its true vivid colour on lighter, pre-lightened bases; on darker brunette hair it adds rich red dimension rather than a bright pop. A strand test shows exactly how the red will read on your base before you do the whole head.
Will it stain my skin, towels, or shower?
Red is the most staining of all the Colour Refresh shades, so take care. Always wear gloves, and wipe any product off your skin (hairline, ears, neck) promptly. Use dark or old towels, and rinse the shower or bath straight after use so pigment doesn't sit on surfaces. The colour rinses off skin and surfaces easily if dealt with quickly, but can mark if left. Rinse your hair until the water runs clear, and keep it off light clothing while it processes.
Is it damaging, and can I bleach over it later?
It's not damaging — it's a conditioning treatment with Argan Oil, Provitamin B5, and nourishing ingredients that leaves hair soft and glossy. But always tell your hairdresser if you've used Colour Refresh, especially a vivid red, before any bleaching or lightening. Red pigment is particularly stubborn, and residual colour can affect or discolour a bleach result, so your colourist needs to know to plan the service correctly.
