Yes — Colour Refresh is a nourishing hair mask carrying semi-permanent colour pigments. The pigments attach to the outer layer (cortex) of the hair rather than penetrating it like a permanent dye, so they deposit tone to refresh and deepen your colour without any lasting commitment or damage. The effect lasts roughly 4–10 washes and fades out gradually, with no harsh regrowth line. How long it lasts depends on the shade, your hair colour, and hair quality. Cacao Intense deposits a rich dark brown, ideal for topping up brunette colour between salon visits.
Will it lighten my hair or cover grey?
No to both. Colour Refresh only deposits tone — it cannot lighten hair, since it contains no bleach or lift. And because the semi-permanent pigments sit on the surface and aren't as strong as permanent dye, they don't cover grey hair (results on grey vary and aren't recommended). Cacao Intense refreshes and deepens existing brown and brunette colour; it works best on hair that's already coloured. On virgin (uncoloured) or very light hair the effect may be minimal or uneven, so a strand test is important.
How long should I leave it on?
Between about 3 and 10 minutes. The longer you leave it on, the more intense the colour result, so adjust to how deep you want the refresh: 3–5 minutes for a subtle top-up, up to 10 minutes for a richer, more saturated brunette. Your hair's porosity affects it too — more porous or lighter hair grabs pigment faster. Always start with a strand test to gauge timing for your hair, and rinse until the water runs clear.
Is it damaging, and can I bleach over it later?
It's not damaging — in fact it's a conditioning treatment. Unlike many colour-depositing products that dry the hair, Colour Refresh is built around Argan Oil, Provitamin B5, and other nourishing ingredients, so it leaves hair soft, glossy, and moisturised. Important, though: always tell your hairdresser if you've used Colour Refresh before any bleaching or lightening service. Even though it's semi-permanent, residual pigment can still be in the hair and can affect (or discolour) a bleach result, so your colourist needs to know.
