No — different texture and working time. Rough Rider is a clay with an oily, gritty texture and a moldable consistency that gives more working flexibility. Night Rider is a firmer paste with a 90-second setting window for maximum directional hold. Rough Rider is for textured, gritty styling with more re-workability; Night Rider is for firm directional hold that sets and stays.
Can Rough Rider be used on longer hair?
Yes — Kevin Murphy confirms Rough Rider works on any length. On shorter hair it creates defined texture and matte hold. On longer hair it adds gritty texture and separation throughout the style. Work through dry hair section by section, starting at the ends, for the most even distribution on longer lengths.
Is Rough Rider the right product for men’s hair styling?
Yes — it is one of the most popular products for short men’s styles. The gritty clay texture, strong hold and slick matte finish are exactly what short choppy or textured cuts need. It also works well for medium men’s styles where a bit of texture and separation is the goal.
Does Rough Rider wash out easily?

Yes — Kevin Murphy confirms it works on damp or dry hair. On damp hair before blow-drying, it builds texture and hold through the drying process. On dry hair it adds gritty texture, separation and matte hold to a finished style. Most clients prefer dry application for maximum gritty texture.
