Ask ModaCan I use Untangled on fine hair, or is it only for thick curly hair?
Yes — Kevin Murphy confirms Untangled works for curly, wavy or frizzy hair of any density. The spray format does not burden fine hair the way cream or oil leave-ins do. For fine hair that tangles when wet, the Lactic Acid and botanical extracts provide detangling slip without weight.
Do I use Untangled instead of a conditioner or as well as one?
No — as well as, not instead of. Use your conditioner as normal, rinse it out, then spray Untangled onto wet hair before combing. Conditioner deposits and rinses away; Untangled stays in and continues working through drying and styling.
Is Untangled the same product as Staying Alive?
No — different leave-ins for different purposes. Staying Alive is an oil-free repair and cuticle-sealing leave-in with an acidic pH for fine hair in the THICKENING regimen. Untangled is a detangling spray for curly, wavy and frizzy hair in the HYDRATE regimen, built around Lactic Acid and Australian botanicals.
Do I apply Untangled before or after combing?
Before. Kevin Murphy’s instruction is SHAKE. SPRAY. UNTANGLE. Spray first, then comb. The Lactic Acid needs to be on the hair before the comb makes contact. Combing before spraying defeats the purpose and causes more breakage.
Can Untangled be the only leave-in on curly hair, or does it need a styler on top?
Yes — it works as a standalone for detangling and basic moisture, but for curl definition and hold you will want a styler on top. Kevin Murphy positions Untangled as the first leave-in step, followed by Killer Twirls or Easy Rider for definition. Untangled does the prep; the styler does the definition.
