Description

Kevin Murphy Shimmer Shine

A leave-in repairing shine spray for all hair colours β€” gold mica crystals add luminosity and warmth to any hair type, not just blonde.

The Moda Team Review: Shine for Every Colour

Shimmer Me Blonde gets most of the attention in this range because it is the blonde-specific version, but Shimmer Shine is the one the rest of the salon uses. Same leave-in format, same mica crystal technology, but with gold crystals that read beautifully on brunettes, redheads, darker hair and mixed-colour clients who want the same shine-enhancing benefit without the violet tint that comes with the blonde version.

Immortelle Oil β€” the same restorative botanical used in the Young Again line β€” gives it a deeper conditioning profile than Shimmer Me Blonde. The scent is also stronger and more distinct. Both are valid choices; the decision is simply about hair colour and scent preference.

Why Our Stylists Recommend It

We use Shimmer Shine on clients with darker hair who want that high-gloss, polished finish after a blow-dry. It is also a good choice for any hair colour on clients who want the conditioning benefit of Immortelle Oil alongside their shine. It works on damp or dry hair and does not need to be rinsed out. One or two sprays through the mid-lengths and ends, twirl the bottle first, and the hair looks finished rather than just clean.

How to Use It

Twirl the bottle before use β€” the gold mica crystals settle. Spray onto damp towel-dried hair or dry styled hair. Do not rinse. Focus through mid-lengths and ends. Spray from 30 to 40 centimetres away and keep moving for an even distribution.

Moda Stylist Tip

The scent is stronger than Shimmer Me Blonde and it is noticeable. If you are sensitive to fragrance or prefer a lighter scent profile in your finishing products, Shimmer Me Blonde (if your hair is blonde or grey) has a lighter fragrance. Both products perform equally for shine β€” the scent is a genuine point of difference.

Key Ingredients

Gold Mica Crystals: Reflect warm, luminous light on all hair colours.
Immortelle Oil: Restorative botanical that moisturises and adds elasticity β€” the same ingredient that anchors the Young Again line for mature, dry hair.
Australian Fruit Extracts: Antioxidant support for shine and colour longevity.

Is This Right for You?

Right for any hair colour, any texture. Not the right choice if you have blonde or grey hair and want tone-brightening alongside shine β€” Shimmer Me Blonde with its silver mica and violet tint is designed for that. Not a styling product β€” it does not add hold, texture or volume. Its job is shine and condition only.

Build Your Routine

Use as the last step after blow-drying or air-drying. Works alongside any Kevin Murphy wash and condition routine. For brunettes finishing the Young Again or Hydrate Me routine, Shimmer Shine is a natural complement.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Product FAQ

Yes β€” Shimmer Shine works on all hair colours including blonde and grey, but Shimmer Me Blonde is the more targeted choice for those tones. Shimmer Shine uses gold mica and Immortelle Oil; Shimmer Me Blonde uses silver mica and a violet tint that neutralises yellow. If enhancing and warming all-over shine is the goal, Shimmer Shine. If brightening and toning blonde or grey specifically is the goal, Shimmer Me Blonde.
Shiny, not greasy β€” when applied correctly. The key is distance and distribution: spray from 30 to 40 centimetres away and keep the bottle moving. Concentrating the spray in one spot on fine hair is what creates an oily look. One or two sprays evenly distributed through the mid-lengths and ends reads as high shine.
Both work. On towel-dried damp hair, the Immortelle Oil protects during the blow-dry and the mica deposits conditioning benefit while the hair dries. On dry finished hair, the mica sits on the cuticle surface and the shine is more visible immediately. For maximum shine impact, apply to dry hair after styling. For conditioning benefit through the blow-dry, apply to damp hair first.
Yes β€” stronger than most Kevin Murphy styling products and noticeably stronger than Shimmer Me Blonde. If you are sensitive to fragrance in finishing products, it is worth knowing this upfront. The scent fades as the product dries. If fragrance is a concern, Shimmer Me Blonde has a lighter profile β€” though it is only suitable for blonde and grey hair.
The twirling motion is specifically designed to evenly suspend the mica crystals through the liquid without creating air bubbles. Shaking would do the same job but can disrupt the spray mechanism. Twirl gently for five to ten seconds before each use β€” the crystals settle quickly and every spray needs fresh suspension.
