Why we like it
The Moda Team Review
Dull hair and frizzy hair are usually the same problem described two ways - a cuticle whose scales are not lying flat. This shampoo works on that directly with quinoa and chia peptides that fill micro-gaps in the surface, plus a ceramide-like lipid. It is also one of the few in the brand where sulphate-free and paraben-free are explicitly stated and the ingredient list backs it up.

Maria Nila is a Swedish line we brought in as a new brand, chosen with our younger clients in mind and because the range is genuinely playful - Mirror Gloss is the family that shows that most clearly. Every formula is 100% vegan with no animal ingredients or animal testing, the company is B Corp certified, and the packaging is CO2-compensated. Our honest read is that this is the up-and-coming brand making the biggest impact in professional haircare right now.

How to use
Use it the way we would.
- Apply to wet hair and massage through scalp and lengths.
- Rinse, then repeat for a deeper cleanse if hair is product-heavy.
- Follow with Mirror Gloss Masque or Rinse Treatment, then the Conditioner to seal.
Moda stylist tipRinse longer than feels necessary and finish cool. Residue is the enemy of reflection, and under-rinsing is the most common reason a glossing shampoo delivers a dull result. Count to thirty past the point you think you are done, then drop the temperature for the last few seconds to help the cuticle lie flat.

Questions? We get them.
Good to know.
The questions we hear most about this product. If yours isn’t here, a real stylist will answer.
Ask ModaIs this actually sulphate-free? Some of the ingredients still sound like sulphates.
Yes. Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate and Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate read like sulphates but are sulfosuccinate and sulfoacetate surfactants, which are different molecules and far milder. Neither SLS nor SLES is present. Maria Nila states sulphate-free and paraben-free for this product specifically, and the ingredient list supports it.
Does this contain silicones? I am trying to avoid build-up on my curls.
Yes, it does, and Maria Nila says so openly. Amodimethicone/Morpholinomethyl Silsesquioxane Copolymer and Quaternium-95 are both silicone-derived. On a gloss product that is a deliberate choice, but if you follow a silicone-free curl routine this is not the shampoo for you.
Will this give me shine on its own, or do I need the whole Mirror Gloss routine?
Yes, on its own it improves surface smoothness noticeably. But Maria Nila's stronger claims, including 3x smoother hair, are stated for the full routine rather than the shampoo alone. If you buy one more product, make it the Conditioner; the Masque is where the actual light-reflecting minerals sit.
My hair is dull because of hard water. Will this shampoo help with that?
No, not really. Hard water dullness comes from calcium and magnesium deposits bonded to the hair, and this formula contains no chelating agent aimed at removing them. It will smooth the surface but not strip mineral build-up. Purifying Cleanse Shampoo is the better first step, then use this.
I have fine hair. Will a glossing shampoo weigh it down or make it greasy?
No, the shampoo itself rinses clean and carries no heavy oils. The weight risk in this line comes from the Conditioner and Masque, where dimethicone sits third. If you have fine hair, pair this shampoo with the Mirror Gloss Rinse Treatment instead, which is built to be weightless.
