We identify hard water mineral buildup as the cause and add Nº.4C weekly to her routine. At her next appointment her colour still looks fresh at week four. Mineral removal, not more treatment, was what was needed. OLAPLEX pioneered bond building. Nº.4C is the brand’s clarifying formula — unusual in that most clarifying shampoos only strip while this one also repairs, making it safe to use on fragile colour-treated and processed hair that would normally be too delicate for a standard clarifier.

How to use
Use it the way we would.
- Use weekly or as needed in place of Nº.4 Shampoo.

Ask ModaHow often should I use Nº.4C? Can I use it every week?
Yes — once a week is appropriate for clients in hard water areas or heavy dry-shampoo users. For most people, once every 2–4 washes is sufficient. Nº.4C is not a daily shampoo — use it as a targeted reset when buildup is the issue, then return to Nº.4.
I live in a hard water area and my colour goes brassy fast. Will Nº.4C help?
Yes — hard water minerals deposit on the hair shaft and cause colour to look dull and shift brassy. Nº.4C removes those mineral deposits along with product residue. For blonde or lightened hair in hard water areas, pairing Nº.4C occasionally with Nº.4P for toning covers both issues.
Will Nº.4C strip my colour?
No — Nº.4C is colour-safe and formulated with OLAPLEX bond-building technology, so it clears buildup without the stripping effect of a traditional clarifying shampoo. Used at the recommended frequency, it supports rather than undermines colour longevity.
I use a lot of dry shampoo between washes. Should I be using Nº.4C more often?
Yes — dry shampoo residue accumulates at the scalp and on the hair shaft and is harder to clear with a standard shampoo. If you use dry shampoo 2–3 times between washes, using Nº.4C on your next wash day is the right move. It removes what standard shampoo leaves behind.
Do I still use Nº.3 or Nº.3PLUS on the same wash as Nº.4C?
Yes — apply Nº.3 or Nº.3PLUS first as a pre-wash treatment, then shampoo with Nº.4C, then condition with Nº.5. The pre-wash bond repair step and the clarifying shampoo step work well together — the clarifier clears the surface and the treatment works on the structure.
