Moda stylist tipMix Chestnut and Caramel 50/50 in a small bowl if your colour sits between the two. Many clients have warm brunette balayage that is not quite caramel and not quite chestnut — blending gives a more precise result than either shade alone.

Ask ModaHow is Chestnut different from Caramel or Red?
Caramel is a warm golden-brown — lighter and more golden than Chestnut. Red is a vivid, cool-to-true red — brighter and less brown than Chestnut. Chestnut sits between them: it is a warm, rich brown with a red-brown depth that suits deeper brunette and mahogany colour. If your colour is a warm espresso or brown-red, Chestnut is the right shade.
This is only available in 30 ml. Is there a larger size?
Currently the 30 ml is the only size we carry for Chestnut. It gives two to three full applications for most hair lengths. If you go through it quickly and want to stock up, ordering two at a time is the most practical option.
I am a man with a warm brunette colour service. Will this work for me?
Yes — Fabuloso Chestnut is one of the few colour maintenance products that works well for men's colour services. It is concentrated, straightforward to use, takes the same amount of time as regular conditioning, and makes a visible difference to how long warm brunette colour holds.
My balayage is warm brunette but I am not sure if Chestnut or Caramel is closer to my colour. How do I decide?
If your colour reads golden-brown or caramel, go Caramel. If it reads rich espresso, mahogany or warm brown-red, go Chestnut. If you are genuinely between the two, try a 50/50 mix — that is what we would do in the salon. The 30 ml size of both makes a trial mix affordable.
Do I need to use gloves with Chestnut?
We recommend it for fair skin, particularly if you are processing longer than two to three minutes. Chestnut is a warm, saturated pigment that can leave a tint on light skin if left in contact for an extended period. A quick rinse after application removes it from most surfaces cleanly.
