Ask ModaWhat's the difference between Cacao and Cacao Intense?
They're the same brown family at different depths. Cacao (5.00) is a rich, medium brown — softer and lighter. Cacao Intense (3.05) is a deep, dark chocolate brown. Choose Cacao to refresh light-to-medium brunette tone while keeping it soft and natural; choose Cacao Intense for dark brown and deep brunette hair, or if you want a richer, deeper result. You can also mix the two to land between them. Both are semi-permanent, condition the hair, and last around 4–10 washes.
Will it darken my hair too much or go too dark?
Cacao is designed to be a softer, more natural medium brown, so it refreshes tone without the depth of Cacao Intense. To keep it light and natural, use a shorter leave-in time (3–5 minutes) and do a strand test first to check the result on your base. The longer you leave it, the deeper and richer it gets, so control the intensity with timing. If you find it's built up over repeated uses, it fades back over a few washes since it's semi-permanent.
Will it lighten my hair or cover grey?
No to both. It only deposits brown tone — it can't lighten, as it has no bleach. And the semi-permanent pigments don't cover grey (results on grey vary and aren't recommended). Cacao refreshes and enriches existing brown and brunette colour; it works best on hair that's already coloured. On virgin (uncoloured) or very light hair the effect may be minimal or uneven, so a strand test is important.
Is it damaging, and can I bleach over it later?
It's not damaging — it's a conditioning treatment built around Argan Oil, Provitamin B5, and nourishing ingredients that leaves hair soft, glossy, and moisturised. But always tell your hairdresser if you've used Colour Refresh before any bleaching or lightening. Even semi-permanent brown pigment can remain in the hair and affect a bleach result, so your colourist needs to know to plan the service correctly.
