The cuticle of the hair is like scales — alkaline conditions (from some shampoos, hard water, bleach) lift those scales open, which lets pigment escape. An acidic pH conditioner closes the scales, physically sealing the colour inside the hair shaft. It is one of the most mechanically effective things a conditioner can do for colour retention.
What are the mineral-blocking actives and why do they matter?
Hard water contains calcium and magnesium minerals that deposit inside the open cuticle during washing. Those deposits accumulate over time and create the dull, brassy, oxidised look that colour clients often attribute to fading — but is actually mineral buildup. The mineral-blocking actives in Atonement Conditioner prevent those deposits from forming, which extends the vibrancy and true tone of the colour significantly.
Will this conditioner weigh down fine colour-treated hair?
No — the formula is designed to be lightweight enough for all hair types including fine. Apply from mid-lengths to ends only (never the scalp), leave for two minutes, and rinse with cool water. Fine hair managed with the right application technique will not be flattened by this conditioner.
How long should I leave the conditioner in?
Two minutes from mid-lengths to ends. This is the processing time for the acidic pH to work and the Hydrolysed Quinoa to penetrate the cuticle — rinsing too quickly reduces the colour-protective effect significantly.
Do I need the leave-in treatment as well, or is the shampoo and conditioner enough?
The shampoo and conditioner protect colour during and immediately after washing. But colour fade also happens throughout the day from heat styling, UV exposure, and oxidative stress — and the in-shower products can't address that. The Hue Dini Colour Protect Leave-In is the step that covers the remaining exposure window. If the hair is colour-treated and regularly heat-styled or exposed to sun, the leave-in is worth adding.
