A curl cream conditions and defines with a softer, more flexible result; a gel gives more structure and longevity, and many form a cast as they dry that's scrunched out once set. Neither is automatically right — it depends on how much hold your texture needs and how you like it to feel.

Moisture is how the hair feels: softness, slip, manageability — the job of conditioners, masks and leave-ins. Hold is how long the shape lasts — the job of gels, foams and stylers with a stated hold. Curls that feel great but collapse by noon usually need hold, not more moisture.

Often, yes — the lighter ones. Waves are easily pulled flat, so makers of wave-specific products (KILLER.WAVES, Motion Lotion, the wave sprays) build them weightless. Use the Fine texture and Lightweight routes rather than the richest cream on the shelf.

Both can define and hold. Mousse tends to add volume and body with a lighter, airier result; gel tends to give firmer structure and longer-lasting definition. Go by the hold each product's maker states, not by the format.

A cleansing conditioner — a low-lather product designed to cleanse and condition in one step. Only products explicitly made for this are labelled Co-wash here; an ordinary conditioner isn't one.

No. Some curls love it — especially coarse, very curly hair that traditional shampoo leaves stripped. Others do better with a gentle curl shampoo, or alternating. Follow the product and what your scalp tells you.

Sometimes. Styling products, oils and hard water build up, and a deep-cleaning shampoo made for curls resets things without stripping. It isn't an every-wash product and it isn't forbidden — use it when the hair stops responding.

No. Frizz is texture being texture. Some people love a soft, lived-in finish; others want more definition or control. The Frizz + control module routes to the finish you actually want rather than treating frizz as a failure.

Start with conditioned, detangled hair, then a defining product applied the way its maker says — many curl stylers are directed for soaking-wet or damp hair, raked or scrunched in, then left alone to dry. Follow the product's own instructions; techniques vary.

That's a hold question. Add a product with a stated hold — a foam, a gel or a stronger-hold cream — rather than more moisture, and refresh the lengths on day two instead of restyling from scratch.

It depends on the product. Some are directed for soaking-wet hair, some for damp, some for dry (refresh sprays, finishing serums). The directions on each product decide — there's no universal rule.

Not on its own. Oils mostly seal, soften and add shine over moisture that's already in the hair. Moisture comes from water, conditioners, masks and leave-ins; an oil helps keep it there.

Use a curl refresh spray or activator on the lengths to reactivate shape, or a little leave-in for moisture — then scrunch and leave it. If the problem is oily roots or a flat crown, that's root refresh: dry shampoo, on its own page.

Curl care and damage care can coexist. Keep moisture, repair, definition and colour maintenance separate: curl products whose makers claim repair or strength, bond and breakage treatments from the Hair Treatments page, and heat protection if you diffuse.

A diffuser is still a dryer. Use a leave-in or styler with a verified heat-protection claim — several curl leave-ins carry one — and the lowest setting that gets the result.
