They protect at different stages. The Shaping Heat Spray is for DRY hair before flat irons or curling irons, and adds a light hold to help the shape last. The Cream Heat Spray and Quick Dry Heat Spray are for DAMP (towel-dried) hair before blow-drying: Cream is a nourishing, repairing option ideal for damaged hair, and Quick Dry protects while speeding up your blow-dry. So: choose Shaping for hot tools on dry hair, Cream or Quick Dry for blow-drying damp hair.
Can I use it before blow-drying?
It's designed for dry hair before hot tools like flat irons and curling irons, rather than for blow-drying damp hair. If your main heat exposure is the blow-dryer, the Quick Dry Heat Spray (which also speeds drying) or the Cream Heat Spray (for damaged hair) applied to towel-dried hair are the better fits. Use the Shaping Heat Spray when you've already dried your hair and are about to straighten or curl it.
Does it hold the style too?
Yes — it has a light 2/5 hold, so as well as protecting from heat it helps your curls or straightened style hold their shape. It's not a strong-hold product (for that, finish with the Finishing or Extreme Spray), but the light hold is enough to give heat-styled hair a bit of staying power while keeping it soft and movable.
Will it dry my hair out?
No — despite being a dry spray, it's formulated with Squalane (a dry oil that acts as a moisture barrier) and Glycerin (which binds water to the hair), so it actually helps keep the hair hydrated and frizz-free while protecting it from heat. Heat styling itself is drying, which is exactly why using a protectant like this matters — it shields the hair and helps it retain moisture.
